Complete gearbox casing arrived today thanks to a member on Mlr :) dropped it off to my local gearbox specialist mate who's gonna put all my internals in it for me.
Will be steamed, assembled and shimmed where required and ill pick it up in the morning :)

Also had another little parcel arrive with some new bits so put all that on tonight :)

Cambelts are so much easier to do out the car :)

Coming along nicely mate.

Yes, but my only wish was that I was actually upgrading something and not just replacing upgraded stuff that's worn out :(
Was looking to replace all the suspension bushes this spring but now this has happened its cleaned me out

Well as promised my gearbox was ready today at about 1:00 so picked it up.
Had a few issues lining the clutch up but got there in the end

Engine and box back in and most the wiring sorted. Just need to get a couple new gaskets for oil return pipe off the turbo and fit the rad, cooler and pipework :)

Your cars looking awesome man, shows you put sweat and blood into it, out of interest, im doing the cam belt ect on mine soon and its the first time ive done a belt on one of these engines, is there anything I need yo be wary of?

Ive heard the balance belt can be a bit of a nightmare but that was from a scooby tuner

just make sure when you set everything up at tdc mark the balance belt sprockets with paint. saves any guess work ect, aparantly timing marks arnt always acurate. cambelt timing marks are all spot on,

Yeah I normally use tipex and thats exactly what i would do, I just got warned that it can be thrown out of alignment regardless of where it was marked, but like I say, the guy I was talking to specalised in scoobies and skylines and even admitted to me that he'd only ever done one evo belt, which he done wrong and had to redo!

he has prob been told the horror stories by other tuners. mine makes a annoying vibration and its lined up with the marks, the marks were wiped off in the process of doin the bottom end ect.

ill be re timing it soon

Thanks mate but all my hard work is based in the fact I can't afford to pay someone to do it all so over the years I've just done everything myself. I have all tools and space to do it so why pay someone else anyway :)

Cambelt is a fiddly job which as you'd imagine requires work from the top and the bottom at the same time and right where the chassis leg is as well.
Its a pig to do in situe and at times requires 2 pairs of hands so don't try to do it alone.

Taking the plugs out makes rotating the engine a lot easier and you'll need to rotate it all several times till everything lines up. Once you done that there is a bolt in the block next to the downpipe. Just take it out and poke a screw driver in. If it doesn't go in then rotate again. You can rotate a little and try poke it in again just to see the difference. If it goes in then the balance shaft is where it needs to be.

Order the tensioner tools off camskill. They will make the job easier.
There is an auto tensioner which will need pinning with either a drill bit or Allen key, do this before releasing the tension off the belt. When you hit belt back on, wind tensioner round till the pin goes slack. Job done !

My first one barring in mind I'm just a Sunday mechanic with no training took me 12 hrs just plodding along on my own, with a little help with the fiddly bits.

I do a few bits myself but the older the less I want to work on my car, since my car crash in 2004 I suffer from head aches and neck pain then 2009 I got smashed from the rear at 30 mph waiting at traffic lights and that was the icing on the cake so I'm on loads of pain killers to see me through life so trying to work under my car or doing silly jobs takes its toll on me but there you go
So credit to you lee for doing all your work matey

Well after 3 long weeks I got to drive her again tonight :D:D

Oh how I've missed it !

Clutch feels awesome, so nice not to have it biting even when foot pressed right to the floor. And it just slides into gear lovely :)

Made a few changes along the way. Re-painted rocker and just a general freshen/tidy up in the bay in general.
Battery relocated to boot also :)

Pics to follow another day  :)
