throttle body & idle trouble

Yup, your right, cold start RPM is 1500, but if you look at the ROM you see that as the engine warms the ECU gradually uses less and less steps to bring the idle down to 850 RPM, it's not like an on/off switch, it's a gradual change, so if the thermostat or fast idle valve are partially stuck then it could cause it to idle at 1200 RPM.

Mmmmmm...................

A very good point indeed!!! :D

the car runs at 1200rpm constantly , it wont drop unless i plug in evoscan and go to reset the base idle at which point it brings it down to 850rpm until i come out of it and then its back up to 1200rpm.i have tried to adjust the base idle screw and its one full turn off closed .

no El must admit i haven't disconnected the MAF sensor cos the car is running great apart from the fast idle problem and even with it sitting at 1200rpm its constant and not erratic.

Try it in the morning buddy, once the engine has warmed up.

Here is some input from Simon that I did not think of adding earlier:

have you disconnected the battery and left it for 5 mins and reconnected and taken for a 30 min drive to reset the ecu?

did the problem start after you removed/refitted the throttle body?

Hi i have got a Evo 8 and have a problem with it the last 2 weeks, took the throttle body off to clean out ,refitted it and it will only idle at 1200 rpm now.changed the stepper motor no change, reset the TPS with evoscan no change , no air leaks , i havent got a clue why its refusing to idle at 850rpm, the only time it idles at 850rpm is when i run evoscan and press actuate it drops to 850rpm but when i come out of evoscan it goes back up to 1200rpm..................is there anyone that can help cos its doing my head in..................lol......)

Check you have the gasket on the right way round or it will cause a small airleak and high idle.

Did you take it back off to check as it is easy to put it back on wrong.

What about taking it for a short spin afterwards to see if that helps bring it down???
