now the geof checked the gasket and it was fine and fitted the same way it come off....

Did you undo the throttle cable braket, check to make sure there is some slack in the cable.

now then lads thanks for all your help and comments , i ended up putting a S90 throttle body on and set it all up with evoscan and the car is running sweet idle 875rpm and the throttle is so smooth. To this end i can only assume the fast idle valve was knackered and lesson learned " if its not broken don't try fixing it "...........lol.......cheers lads

EVO 6 idle problem

Brought my evo a couple of weeks ago, running sweet now after a run she just dies at traffic lights etc, or sometimes just idles up and down like its needing fuel, turn the car off wait a couple of mins then starts ok runs again fine up to traffic lights and it starts all over again, any help please
