well after a good trip up to santa pod and 4 fairly good runs up the strip i felt that somthing was harouring my efforts cos after a previous vist to pod i had got my 60ft times down from 2.50sec to 1.75 seconds awesome but i ask why am i just 0.20 seconds quicker 1/4 mile and also why am i 8mph slower at the line compaired to my previous attempt.... must have been the head wind i thought :hm:

well un beknown to me it turns out my secondary fuel pump has stopped working and i complete my brisk 3hour drive home too.

only a couple days later when i flicked the ignition on did i realise the pump wasnt working

because of the power level my car is at the in tank pump just isnt up to the job so i also have a bosch 044 in line fuel pump to make sure she gets the amount of fuel required.

it turns out the reason the pump stopped working was because the inline fuse holder thats fitted in the main power cable that supplies the power to the pump was poor quality, and or just not up to the job as the colour part of the blade fuse was slightly melted and the connections the fuse plugs into was poor and the fuse became detached so obviously this resulted in the pump not running but unfortunatly for me this also ment my engine was running lean

a cheap fix for a new fuse holder to get the pump up and running again but look at the damage that has been caused due to the engine running lean :(

the head will be coming off the weekend so will update this post with pics of my findings as and when

first off what looks like fragments of melted piston sat on top of the piston

then what looks like some vertical scoring to the bores

Lee, what fuse and wiring did you have in the system?? Problem is with the 044, is when they get hot, they draw more power and if the system isn't up to it, the wires will melt. I've done quite a few calcs for fuse, wire cm2 and relays to use when the pump is at full pelt, 14.4v and hot so i can work worst case. Sorry to see its caused damage though, its never fun to rip an engine apart :(

Steve the fuse holder was the same as this but black and with a 30amp fuse in it. Cable had yellow spade connectors on the ends

Part of the plastic of the fuse was out of shape from heat and the prongs the fuse plugged into was poor and hardly grabbed hold of the fuse.
Was confused to start with cos when I was testing for power the cable was dead in the car but when I pushed probe onto the conections coming out the fuse holder I had power. Turned out obviously as I was pushing the probe in i was also pushing the conection back together showing I had power. Then the holder came apart and could see the conection onto the fuse was poor so binned it and bought a new one.

Hope its not too expensive to fix mate.

On the plus side you have found it. I wouldn't of had a ucking clue!

Although I did question why if your starts were improving you were not hitting the same or better top end.

You'll be able to show Jonny your late 11's soon :)

I hear Rotorstock8 is a weekend event at the Pod (20/21st August).
Predominately Mazda but increasingly other Japs, might get a chance to run it down the strip again then (if not before). Good excuse for beer+over-nighter again

Was just a case of testing the live wire for voltage that's all. Was no power going to the pump so just a case of following the wire. And as it's a aftermarket modification the wiring is as well so not like it's all buried in the main loom running twice round the car.

Mmm sounds interesting. Any excuise for a night eh lol :):)

Cheers Craig ! Indeed but no need for a flat bed cos I been driving it unaware of the damage so just parked it up ready to start pulling it apart at the weekend.
My race engine builder mate will sort the block out though as that's beyond me.

Yea come on, update your thread :) what's happening ?
