agree with jamie there it looks like you have quite a bad fuel leak and you said earlier that a few times the car had been run real low on fuel your pump, filters are most defenitly full of grit ect and possibly even injectors is that right enough guys??

maybe would be a good idea to strip down injectors check there spray ect?
or maybe better to source leak first as if its the tank u would be aswell get a new tank first before going any further as your tank is most likely full of grit ect so prob best to stop trying to start it as could end up costing yu injectors 2 m8 and and the same time as replacing tank you will be able to get to your pump ect..

hope you get it sorted soon bud!

cheers

Hi and Welcome mate - As you can see, you are in the right place for the right help - The guys here are so good and helpful. You IV looks very nice!! I have one in blue which is standard - I'm just about to put the same HKS BOV on that you have, and wondered if you had ever had the car running right, and if so how the HKS BOV working ok, any stalling on gear change and idle. If you have had it running right from the point you bought it, can you let me know if it was running ok or if there was any problems.

Anyway hope you get the car sorted soon!! Good luck buddy!

Cheers

Hello, the car was actually running great, the BOV sounded awesome...didn't seem to be the cause of any stall or idle issues.

**UPDATE**

I pulled pulled the coil packs and plugs 1 at a time. All cylinders look pretty good, No.2 Looked more wet than the other pistons. I only got cylinder number 1 spark plug wire to fire a spark from a plug. Couldn't get cylinder the #2 coil pack to fire, 3, or the #4 coil pack to fire a spark.

(1) (2) (3) (4) is how I'm counting them.

I have some copper plugs laying around from an Ecotec 4 cylinders. I'm going to throw them in and see what happens. On a side note, the car was running perfectly fine w/the fuel leaking.

**EDIT** Just saw spark from the #3 spark plug and wire. The coil packs are the only ones I can't see any spark from but I'd imagine if they were not working, the other two wires wouldn't fire at all. The #2 piston appearing a little "wet" while the others dry, that has to point to something. I just threw a new spark plug in the #2 and #4 but no start up still. I didn't touch metal to the end of the spark plug I'd placed in the coil packs also, that could have been a reason I wasn't getting spark.

- Just verified fuel getting to the rail. Came out strong, clean and steady. So we are getting adequate fuel, timing chain good, battery power good, NO spark at the distributor packs, some spark at the plug wires.

-Big questions for me are: Where is the crankshaft position sensor and where is the fuel pump relay(so I don't kill the engine trying to get spark to it)? Could that clutch chatter sound have been knock? Where are the grounding points for the ignition system?

Welcome pal! Hope it al works out for ya in the end. Have you tried to see if the injectors are squirting via the rail being taken off?

Use the same plug on ech of the leads, that way you know the plugs are good and which lead is knackered if its the case. Be sure to try it in a darkish place.

This has me beat fellas,

-Compression should be okay if the timing belt is intact w/the cam gears rotating
-Fuel pump is sending adequate fuel to the fuel rail up start up(I think the fuel leak is just a fuel leak, car ran fine with it)
-I'm getting some spark from the wires/plugs(I'm thinking coil packs didn't because I didn't ground out the tip of the spark plug when I check for spark on those. Also if the coil pack was bad, it wouldn't give spark to the other one.)
-Next thing would be injectors, when you pull the spark plugs immediately after attempting to crank the car, they are damp, so some fuel is getting in there (I'm going to check for voltage and resistance).
-The fuel injectors pulse should tied in w/the crankshaft position sensor, but if it was bad I don't know if it would allow the fuel injectors to open at all.
-When I peaked inside the spark plug holes, the engine didn't look flooded.
-This could be more so electrical related.

I'm out of ideas :-(

Hello,

I haven't pulled them from the rail, I just pulled the fuel line from the rail and watched it flow upon start up. I think the injectors are squirting because if you pull them right after an attempt to start the car, there is always fuel residue on the plugs. Most (4) cylinder engines I know can at least run on (3) Cylinders in the worst of situation, I ran an engine w/a hole in the block to a shop before. No starts are never any fun  haha.

Are these cars OBDII? Will a scanner do anything for me? I'm going to play w/it some more, see if I can find an autoparts store.

not really pal, it can turn over but that don't mean compression is right. I noticed el was saying the crank sensor might have come loose, have ya checked?

That's what I been trying to check but I don't know where it's at. Can someone give me a general Idea, please?

To gain access to the crank shaft sensor, you will need to take the timing covers off.

You will find it connected to the block on the right hand bottom corner, it has 2 X 10mm bolts holding it in place.

If you have spark then I am inclined to rule out the Crank Shaft Sensor.

Again, I suggest that you run a compression test in order to get a better picture. It will help both you and I in getting somewhere fast!!!

From what I have gathered so far, it seems like the timing might be out/the belt might have jumped a couple of teeth.

Ok, sounds good...I'm doing my best to track down a compression tester out here. What's the best way to kill all fuel during the compression test? I didn't want to just continue to leave the fuel line unhooked from the rail.

**UPDATE** ^^^ Pics of the compressor side of the turbo....very oily. I'm assuming a good catch can would alleviate most of that and that's normal for the most part.

I did the "poor man's compression test" aka put my finger in the hole while someone cranks the engine. All (4) Cylinders spit out some air, I know there's no real way to tell by that actually but I figured I'd try it. Cylinders look pretty dry from that hole.

-Spark is definitely there, fuel is definitely flowing to the rail

-Guess it's something electrical or the compression side is out of wack.

-Still have to check the crank position sensor but like someone said earlier if I'm getting spark, that "should" be good. I gotta get some jackstands......

Thanks for the help thus far fellas.....

The poor man's test is supposed to reveal compression, not work out if the cylinders have excess oil etc!!!

You need a compression test done properly buddy.

Check on line or speak to someone that knows the local area.

Have you tried Jock???

What is Jock? I'm still hunting down a compression tester....I don't know much Spanish and most people are reluctant to help me out, I've only met a few friends down here and I'm using them religiously to track down one also. I'll look into ordering one online tonight.

Good news is ***I DID find the FUEL LEAK***!!!!!

Those (2) Rubber hoses about 2" long connecting the hard lines are torn up pretty bad and drenched in fuel....it's running down the side of the fuel tank and that's what we saw leaking. There is a trail of fuel. I'm wondering if fuel pressure is the issue. I squeezed the line out of the fuel pressure regulator while trying to crank the car, and is sounded like it almost started!!

I don't know, squeezing it a little more didn't do too much better. I really need a compression tool!! I think I'm getting closer to something. Either way, if it was compression all along, I'm getting to know my baby a little more each day haha.

Thanks for dealing w/me thus far!

Well if it tried to fire over then you need to get those fuel lines sorted as soon as possible buddy.

As for your question on who Jock is:

Jock from English Mobile Mechanics - Living Life in the Sun

Mocking up fuel lines should be easy enough for you over there, I suspect that the pipes are only torn in the area immediately around the fuel pump so you might want to temporarily repair a small section and then see how it goes.

Do keep hunting for a compression tester.

Keep us posted please.

Ahh I see, I'll have to get in touch w/him. I will get some line asap, getting anything done in Spain on Sunday is impossible so tomorrow it is.

I just pulled the injectors and the fuel rail out and watched for fuel spray. They all gave a light really fine mist, not much at all, kind of weak actually but maybe that's because the car isn't started and running.

I'll definitely keep you guys posted on how everything goes.
