changing turbos?

well after inspecting my turbo today and with my noises and boost problems(from my other thread)ive just bought a replacement turbo from the for sale section on heremy question is,how long does it take to swap turbos over and is it a difficult job etc as i dont want to be ripped off with paying someone to fit it for me?! thanks

Not that difficult. Worst problem will be seized studs, nuts, bolts. Run engine to get them warmed and plenty of wd40 ...

as rob says took me 1.5 hrs to do mine the worst ones are the manifold studs and the turbo to manifold stud and nuts only need your run of the mill tools and a nice afternoon

It will take about an hr and not that difficult. Spray the bolts with plenty of wd40.

Remove:
Front Under Cover
Radiator (Optional)
Air Intake Pipe
Crossmember Bar
Downpipe (Unbolt leave hanging)
Exhaust Manifold Cover
Front O2 Sensor
Turbo Heat Protector
Turbo Water Pipe Feed Line
Turbo Water Pipe Return Line
Turbo Oil Feed Line
Starter
Turbo Oil Return Line
Vacuum Lines
Exhaust Bracket
Exhaust Manifold (With turbo attached)
O2 Housing
Turbo

Clean bolts with wire brush and fit new gaskets.

It is not that hard mate and just a bit of stuff to take off first but its wee buns...honestly its a piece of cake. What evo have you got???? i have a few new gaskets here and you can have them free so will save you about £35-40 if you pay for the postage
You will need 2 gaskets for the oil feed pipe, 1 paper 1 pressed metal.
mani gasket 3 or 5 layer.
turbo elbow gasket.

to be honest phil its not the sort of thing im good at lol.its a 4 with a 5 engine,my manifold gaskets are brand new ones as i had to change my manifold over recently so i bought 2 new oem metal layered ones so i need whatever other ones you have lol.

no worries mate and i have some here for E5 i will send you the gaskets that i have. Should have a turbo elbow gasket, 2 gaskets for the oil feed pipe. Mate honestly it is easy and you cant go wrong, the removal of the cross member....north south bar is just for access but if you leave it on it wont save you any more time as hinders you a little.

If you have had the mani off it will be easy to remove again. You can do it another way and undo the bolts on your downpipe and remove it, loosen the 2 M6 bolts on the oil feed from the sump, remove the water feed pipe, air intake pipe and remove from the turbo and loosen the mani, O2 and vacuum pipes and take car removing the mani with turbo attached upwards from your engine bay. just watch the radiator and make sure all pipe are disconnected, all bolts are removed.

Took me longer than that to do it

Don't forget to get replacement gaskets it's a must, especially on the oil return. Other than that its not to bad a job.

I had some proper lub for the job rather than wd40 works so much better few minutes and no trouble cracking any bolt off

I took a few days in the end with replacing the oil feeds, oil..but worth it

I would, nothing wrong with putting fresh in
