will I require a remap?

Hi all, hope someone can help me out.

I have an Evo 5 gsr with the following mods:

*K&N panel filter
*Decat
*Backbox / muffler
*Turbosmart DP bov
*coilovers
*turbo timer
*boost gauge

Now unfortunately I'm one always on the "panic" side of things always worrying if something goes wrong etc. :cry: Where I'm from unfortunately there's no evo specialists.. NO awd dyno's etc. very sad I know.

I always thought I was on the edge of a safe side with my mods regarding
a remap of the standard ecu. Since I still run stock boost etc.

I just recently bought an HKS mushroom type air filter but then realized that this latest mod would surely require a remap? since more airflow would be going to the maf sensor? I haven't installed this yet as this got me a bit worrying.

Just hope someone could help out on info's etc. on what I should do.

Phew!! Signs of relief!!! Standard 1 bar mate or as my gauge reads 15 psi.

Got to go against mart and say go for a remap.

1. Your car is breathing much easier. So will boost higher, plus possible fuelling issues high in the revs.

2. It will make the most of the mods.

I'm far from an expert but if it was my car I would have mapped it by now, even if it was just a very mild map, and check to see if everything is as it should be.

I would that would be tops on my list the problem is finding some1 that can do it thats the main issue here as stated we don't even have an awd dyno here where I'm from.. there's a few tuners when asked if we could "street tuen" they said they didnt have the apropriate software to do so..

I did even tried to do my research and viewing videos on remap'ing but seems like rocket science lol

I guess my only option would be to have a "remote remap"..

He's on here a lot, message him for some advise, he may be able to offer advise as to what you need or other options.

Remapping is like rocket science!

I guess what I would do is fit the filter and try it out if I get fuel/boost cut fit airbox back in.

An ideal situation would be an remote remap what all is involved is beyond me. I would consider all options

if its not easy to get to a tuners if it was me i would fit a wideband,at least you will know if your running lean/rich

This is the best idea fit the wide band and check your fueling. If you can get a openport 2 connector and log as well then i could map it via email if you wanted

Yeah I guess I could fit a wideband to be on the safe side, wow that would be amazing bro !!

well my car had everything done like whats on his list and it run fine… engine will only take in air what is needed… thats what a maf is for??? well i thought..lol

Maf logs how much air is drawn in. It doesn't control it.

Almost the same mods as my car but mine came with a mushroom filter. And now I've just recently decatted it and put 3" downpipe back (thanks RsvRob) on it I want a remap to get the best out of the mods, and to know she's running at her best :razz:

Cars like these you just can't presume that you 'think' its running normal as it might be slowly damaging something slowly over time. That's how I look at it anyway.

Best to be safe then expensively sorry!

They will still run ok with mods but like mr norton says the factory map ain't
brill a remap will bring all your mods together
bolt ons are easy the mapping is the hard bit!oh and the taking engine
out and forging etc lol!

He does remote tuning on Evo's and I've read good things. I think you'd need to buy a cable so he can adjust the map but I don't think it's hard to do

Guess I have a little update, heard from a friend of a friend about this fella living here on the island that tuned his evo4.. O.O I was stoked!! Took me about full day to get a hold of this person (facebook / texts) we talked abit he had a Evo4 but with the 6 ecu+injectors.

He told me he has "a bunch of" maps for the evo also told me he self tuned the car (on the streets infront of his house lol) he said at first it was basicly trial and error but this was done in a period of 7 years.

I guess this would fall in the category of "geekmap"? Anyhow I know idealy this would not be the better choice for everyone but with my case seems perfect!!

He asked me if I loved pops and bangs, launch control etc. Stuff which he could add in the mapping. Pretty much had tears of joy because I never thought I could've get all these things.

I'm now thinking of going for a light tune when getting the filter, and doing a propper full remap when I get a full 3" exhaust, 255 wallbro & a boost controller looking to run 1.3 bar / @ 19 psi.

Your thoughts? As always I do appreciate every single one of em
