the 8 crank will fit in the 4, but iirc the centre thrust face is bigger on the 8 crank.

bores will need to be measured regarding the pistons.

Hi buddy and welcome to the Forum!!!

Sponners is spot. The Crank will fit with no issues at all. As long as the pistons are standard and not after market (oversized) they will go in a treat. You will just have to take the existing ones out and slide these in. If they are too tight then they are oversized.

I suspect that they are stock so good luck buddy.

Keep us posted right here.

if your planning on quite a bit of tuning then I would recommend getting a later block as crank walk is quite common on the 4 block.

You will need to replace the head gasket and maybe change the connecting rod bearings that are also known as con rod bearings. Change the Cam Belt kit too and inspect your Clutch kit and the Fly wheel.

An inspection of the turbo would be beneficial too.

Are you doing the work yourself???

not doing the work myself. my mechanic has worked on a few evos but never done the crank on one before so was a bit worried when i told him i had bought an evo8 crank. unfortuanatly he is more into his impreza's. think i will try and source a later evo block then. are the evo 5/6/7/8 blocks all the same which one should i look out for and do i have to change anything to fit

You could go for a V block, simply because it is cheaper.

A VI block has more potential.

You will need to calculate the total cost including the build. It may work out better if you just get an engine.

Work it out and give me a shout. There just might be an engine available for you from a reliable member right here, I think he still may have it.

I have a VI block available but I want you to check what's going on ebay etc. first just in case you might be able to snap up a bargain.

Speak to you soon buddy.

Not a bad deal, all will depend on how much labour your mechanic will charge to change them. Race bearings typically cost between £80 to £100.

Keep us posted buddy.

I suspect it is done as you were getting quotes in for insurance.

Just would be nice to know that your back on the road and the mini project is done!

to finish the story of. i went and got the 6 bottom end on mlr. which never arrived, so took the case through paypal and got my money back. after all this time and hassle i thought i would just get a complete engine. which i now have, just waiting for my mechanic to sort out the squealing sound from the turbo, and preying its not the turbo knackered!

Well keep us posted on that buddy.

Who was this rogue on the MLR that never sent the item out:mad:

Name and shame buddy so no one else falls fowl of him;)

You can post up his User name and his real name as I am sure the paypal address will have listed it.

Mmmm.................that gives me an idea of sorts.
