who has a apexi boost controller

hi all im new to the forum and have just bought an evo 6. its dyno,d at 399.6 bhp at 1.7bar but its currently turned down to 1.2bar. ive never had a apexi bc and dont want to fiddle with the buttons and f..k things up so does anyone now how to ajust the boost settings and can it be explained easily enough

You should have 2 programmes set in the controller, Programme A and Programme B.

Usually Programme A is the high boost setting and Programme B is for low boost.

What you want to do buddy is press the button on the left to go back through the menu until you come to the Programme option in order to ascertain what the settings are between both Programmes.

Get back to me with your findings and we can take it from there buddy.

ok will do that el thanks. oh and on other matters i checked the ayc level and its just above min so im guessing that wont make the light come on. i got it back today and i did notice that in reverse it makes a clonking noise and then when starting of in first it almost seems like the rear diff slips and jolts before righting itself but when driving its perfect.????dont sound to good i reckon

Fill it to the max mark and I suggest that you change the dif oil unless it was done very recently buddy.

Is the AYC light still on???

right yes its got settings a and b will have a look. the ayc is coming on when it feels like it. 4 example i just took sum1 for a spin in it a hamered it....no light no probs!!! what diff oil would you recommend el

What is the setting on Programme B???

You can adjust the setting by pressing the up arrow until you have it at what you want and then you just need to go back which will set the Programme.

ok so i am in the right place then the duty says 50% which i have no idea what that means if i turn it up to 1.7kgcm then do i need to adjust the duty as i have no idea what this is on setting b its 1.30 and the duty is 0%. I put 1.70 left the duty at 50% went for a spin and cant say i really noticed a big difference???

Put the duty settings on both at 60% buddy.

Is the unit connected correctly and wired up to the Solenoid???

You should have suffered whip lash to be honest with you!!!

I remember that TubeJoe made a tutorial vid some time ago but the duty settings where a little too high in my opinion.

Ok the easy way to setup an AVCR:

There isn't 1






Basicly just choose setting A or B whichever you want to use for high boost.

Press next and you will get the duty / boost display.

At the top is boost, press up until it reads 1.7 or 1.75 (might need to play with this a little to get it spot on).

Then either go into duty and up it to about 75%, try and incremnt it from the low rpm - high rpm instead of just doing a flatline 75%, I usually start around 60% then go 63%, 68%, 75% etc etc.

Then press back, back, back and go into monitor, drive the car in 4th gear and boot it around 3500rpm and see what boost it makes, if it overshoots big time, then back right off the throttle and turn the duty down, if it's a bit short up the duty a little.

The other way to set it up is to go back into the boost / duty screen, set boost at 1.75 and then press back, down and go into the etc menu, scroll down until you find learn gear and switch it on for 3rd, 4th and 5th gear (puts an X in the circle).

Press back and find start duty, set 3rd and 4th to 0% and 5th to about -5% (for now, you can tweak this once you hit 1.7bar in 4th).

Now you need to find the FB speed setting in the etc menu.

THIS IS THE IMPORTANT BIT:

There is a list of 1st to 5th gear, you need to drive the car at exactly 2500rpm in each gear, and you will notice the numbers next to the gear change, you need to hold a steady 2500rpm and see what the number reads in the bottom right corner, and then input that number next to the gear you are in. so for example if in 3rd it reads 174 in the bottom right corner, input 174 next to 3rd.

You must do all 5 gears.

Then back in the etc menu, find NE Points, this will setup the rpm points for the avcr to use, from memory I use something like 3000rpm, 3500rpm, 4500rpm, 5500rpm, 6000rpm, 6500rpm. 7000rpm (you can change these to what suits you / your car best depending on what turbo you are using).

When all that is done, go back into the monitor screen and plant it in 3rd and 4th gear to the redline (assuming it doesn't over shoot the boost massivly).

Sorry I am doing all this from memory so it isn't going to be 100% perfect but hopefully close enough to get you going.

lol unfortunately i wont be. that is alot to digest and very complex if youve never set one up. i get all the lagistics but im gona leave it for now set at 1.35 as its running well. will study a bit more be4 i touch it. thanks or the info, ill have to refere back to it soon enough

The best thing would be to study the video off and on for a few days or so just to get the point, visually.

Once you have familiarised yourself with what is going on in the vid and the points that TubeJoe is trying to get across, move onto the next stage which is what Cossie1 has posted.

Do this by printing off the instructions that he has offered you.

Go for one setting at a time and play with that particular setting until you are confident enough to move onto the next one.

Before you know it, you will have mastered the settings.

The first time I played around with an AVC-R, I was exactly where you were, I knew nothing about it but still had a go, concentrating on Programme A, knowing that if I messed up, Programme B was still set correctly so I had something to fall back on

this my sound daft but would the whole thing need setting up again as explained, seeming that it has already been installed, could i not just raise the boost/duty to 1.70 60% without ajusting everything
