transmission noise on my evo v

Evening,new to mitsubishi evo's, had 4 imprezas previously and fancied a change,glad i have so far anyway!,anyway getting to point,my evo5 is making a grating/transmission noise when slowing down at slow speeds and in lower gears,ie in town, transmission is spot on when accelerating,gears lovely & smooth,noise appears to be coming from n/s front area,not sure if this is normal noise on these cars as i haven't driven one before,any ideas people would be appreciated,thanks Ross

Hi I have exactly the same on a VI but it sounds like drivers rear. Did you find out whats going on, I fear it could be the diff on mine.

transmission noise

yep,stripped down gearbox and transfer box,stripped diffs to check and eventually found it was the crown wheel on front diff that had a chippped tooth,just got to build it up now and replace clutch and thta should be it,,hopefuly!!
