Prospective EVO 6 owner

Hi all
I never thought Id be on here actually contemplating an Evo 6 as my next toy, But having researched a number of other cars the Evo is the one that has stuck in my mind the longest and is a serious contender. These are the ones where the cons unfortunatly out weighed the pros.

Other choices just for reference.

350z
147GTA
GT4 ST205
Focus RS
Skyline R33

I currently drive an FTO GPX manual which is great fun round the twisties but I want more straight line speed. Obviosly the Evo easily ticks the pace and handling boxes. But.....Is it a looker? mmm, does it make a nice noise? These are also important factors for me.
For a while ive always said i'd stick to NA cars with preferably V engines.
But this narrows me down too much and also I kinda want to stay Jap, it just makes sense!

So this leads me to doubts about turbo cars. How much lag is there with the 6? Do you need to keep it in boost to get moving or can you also rely on lower down torque to pull you along when you're not trying to rag it? Say joining a fast motorway or something. Overtaking.

Are the turbos reliable, how much TLC is required?

Is it worth looking for one of the more rare evo's like the RS2?

When does the acceleration start to fade? I can only go by GT on the ps2 where they'd sprint to about 80mph like anything and then fade out, then everything passes you on the long straight!

Lastly, tell me what you've chopped out on the highways!

Cheers
Si

Your asking loads of question's and basing them on a computer game!!!
Test drive one if possible or see if you can get a passenger ride. This will answer lots of your questions.
There are far to many options available to you with an Evo to give the setup you want.
That includes performance or looks!!
You'll find some aren't as rare as you think and you'll be paying a premium for no extra.
Servicing etc is as any car. Look after it and it'll look after you.

Lol! Welcome! I think if you play forza you might get a better feel! ;p

Only joking! You need to go out in one before you even think about buying one.. ;)

Come on guys give me a bit more than that! The closest Evo of interest to me so far is 200 miles away. I'm Just trying to get an idea before i put a whole day aside for a test drive. Share your experiences with me. Forget the ps2 thing, fair one I can see how that might have been a silly comparison, but apart from that I've asked some decent questions that I'd really appreciate if you could answer the best you can.

Cheers

But it's personal experience. Each to there own. Some prefer the full on track/rally style, some the std but beast engine, some the polished perfect look.
Without experienceing it yourself you won't know. Some on here have gone for a std newer look then decided they like the complete opposite.

Is it a looker? Personal choice
Is it a nice noise? some like loud some don't, again its personal choice
Lag? Little if any unless your driving like an old granny and short shifting in low revs
Turbo reliability? Std is good for many miles but as anything if its looked after it will last
TLC required? again as any car, if its looked after then it will last longer and serve you better
Rareity value? your paying a premium for little gain if your after a more limited edition model. Personal choice if you want that extra factor
Acceleration doesn't fade, the turbo runs out of puff if your maxing it out. A good map will sort that.

There is a general buyers guide on here. Have a search...

£6500 for a e6 sounds about right! but to find a clean example will take time. there is a few members on here with 5-6.. maybe someone near might be wiling to take you out in there car before going to buy one! or better still try and come to one of the meets in the near future and have a butchers at some of the members motors. ;) but i will say once you have brought one you wont regret it... ;)
