newbie with NO knowledge!

Hi people
New on the forum and am picking my evo up in a couple of days hopefully. I am getting an mr fq320. Completely standard with no engine mods.
I have been reading the post by rsvrob regarding the initial engine mods but have a couple more questions, so any help i can get will be much appreciated and i apologise in advance if the questions are all answered previously somewhere on the site!
Right......... the only mods i would like to do to the engine is probably the stage 1. So a remap, new fuel pump etc. Hoping to achieve around 360bhp, give or take if thats possible. That would do me. I just love the 0-60/80 (lol) pull away from the lights feeling and going any faster don’t really interest me too much.
I am looking at the ecutek remap as this seems to be a popular one. (am i right)
Re the fuel pump is there a particular make and model i should look at and the same for air filters etc. I assume the Walbro is the most common
Is it necessary to upgrade the exhaust, put on down pipes/ decat etc? Bit unsure here.
Rob mentions a 3” exhaust is best, not sure what the standard exhaust size on an mr-fq320 is?
No knowledge about boost controllers. I know that i would like 2 settings. High and low power and would like to be able to switch between the two with minimal fuss. Is this possible?
What make of dump valve should i look in to as again there are so many i want to be buying thigs once and once only
Do i need to do anything else to achieve what im after. I do know that when i get it remapped id like a bit of anti lag i think, (the popping and banging noise)

Again i am sorry about asking repeat questions but some of the high tech talk just confuses me. Lol
Plain old English is best!
If any one does have a spare 5 mins id really appreciate the info and advice.

Alright buddy.

Your right in that the walbro 255 is the most popular fuel pump.
Air filter wise, depends if you have standard box or aftermarket? Even then it is down to personal choice although I think lost guys go for a big cone k&n.
I also don't know the standard 8 exhaust size. I doubt it is 3" though. Again, if you went to upgrade it depends how loud you want it etc. Miltek is very popular or nurse spec r for loud!!!
Mapping wise you could get a friendly geekmapper from here who know what they are doing although there are a lot of reputable timers out there so I guess it depends on your location and budget!!
Boost controller, again, depends what you are willing to spend. If you are looking at about 360bhp and steady boost you could just run with a 3 port solenoid as I wouldn't advise getting an electronic and fiddling with settings if you are unsure what you're doing. Pops and bangs can be added by any mapper too.

as for a map get it along to one of the tuners on here mate they will map the car acordingly to your mods instead of a general map they have used on other cars, ecutech is good but cant beat a good old fasioned mapper.

there is another thread which explains about the differences between the models of evos in the tech section you will find this handy.

a lot of people use an avcr its a popular choice as its at the top but very complicated to use so once its set DO NOT TOUCH otherwise you can have a 3 port plummed into the car and mapped in at time of mapping.

i would have thought your exhaust is sufficent maybe new turbo elbow will be needed, forge make some good dump valves and sound great.

that sounds good about using one of the lads on here to do a remap! id be well up for that. i'll have a look around to see what member does them etc unless you know who the best mappers are? be good to meet a couple of ya for some ideas too!

so if i were to get it mapped then what things from the list should i definitely get done first so as its all ready to go? obviously the fuel pump. could you list them pls.

If you like your 0-60's or launching - i'd get used to removing your gearbox, the standard clutch is terrible and the 6 speed box won't take too much abuse before it gives up, evo's are great at handling though I'm sure you'll get over launching it and start throwing it into corners at speed

Yeh I thought as much! There's always a bloody bad point that comes with having fun and is set out to spoil it! Lol
It has had a new clutch about 8 months ago so I'll find out What one. Hopefully an updated one then!

Hiya, air filters depends on choice some have k&n cones others have HKS mushroom filters, as for dumpvalve just depends what u like I have a blitz bov u get the whoopchiiii (can't really describe the noise lol) when you change gear and the flutter, as for exhaust again depends on personal choice some like the loudness of a nur spec r ( sounds awesome ) some don't but I'd advise you if you do want to change it do it before you get it mapped otherwise you will lose power putting it on after the map there are mappers on here that I'm sure would help you out, depends where ur from I hear indigo are really hot at what they do they are Wales based so depends how far you are to how far your willing to travel
Walboro 255 is popular choice for stage 1 mods

Personally mods wise id go
Walbro 255
Miltek exhaust with decat
3 port solenoid
Cone filter
Forge dump valve

That should see you good.
Personally though, I'd spend my money first on brakes and tyres if needed.

thanks for the replies. i think before i choose things like dump valves/BOV's and exhaust systems im gonna have to hear a few.
been looking at the miltek turbo back and also the blitz but just not sure. hopefully there will be an opportunity to meet a few members soon to get some ideas. do meets go on much in kent/ essex areas or is it just events like trax etc.
i know when i had my last motor a few years ago street racing in basildon and lakeside was MANIC! until the old bill spoilt things

Theres a thread up about local meets in the kent area in the meets section, and as far as i know they still do the lakeside runs just not as often

yea seems that way lol come to some shows with us lot they ain't till September but it's a great chance to meet some of us
