My re-build thread

Well after a trip to santapod and discovering a fuel pump had stopped working due to a dodgy fuse holder I decided after talking to my very knoledgeable race engine builder that seeing as though the engine had been running very lean that it would be a good idea to pull the engine apart and access the damage.

Turned out it wasn't as bad as first thought so would have been fine to carry on running it after the fuel pump issue was sorted but better to be safe than sorry.

So off came the head and out came the pistons and rods for inspection and it turns out apart from some very minor scratches to the bores and some unusual pitting to the edge of the pistons that not much work is required but I do have a shopping list of bits to put it back together.

there is some carbon build up on the head so thinking it might be that

so what new bits are ou putting in? when do you think it'll be back on the road?
Its amazing how much space either side of the engine it looks like you have with the manifolds removed

parts ordered

cosworth 1.3mm headgasket
cosworth L19 head stud and nut kit
full set of piston rings
cambelt kit
and a couple oil filters

bearings will be measured for and sorted out by jamie my engine builder friend and he will be skiming the head, honing the block, gapping the rings and fitting the rods and pistons back in once i can pin him down for a couple hours as he is flat out this week building race engines for a big race day this weekend

ive discovered quite a bit of play in the turbo so i have sent that off for inspection too seeing as though the engine is having a refresh it would be a shame for the turbo to let go and spoil it


yes andy there is a lot of room, once i had removed the turbo and manifold i actually stood in the engine bay to remove the inlet manifold lol

I stand there making turbo noises too lol

Car is on axel stands so hard to reach the inlet mani so climbed on in

Good news. The postman has been today

New cosworth 1.3 headgasket
Full set of piston rings
Cosworth head studs
Timing belt and idlers
Oil filters

Con rod bearings will be here tomorrow so just need to pin my engine builder down
