Mr cams

Is it worth fitting a set of mr cams in my evo 5 before my remap. Is there any gains to be had or is it a pointless exercise.

There could be benefits from just fitting adjustable pulleys to your standard cams.

I have a Customers Evo 5 with a Evo 9 80 series on and a set of HKS 272's running at 1.8 bar and he tracks the life out of it.

for the effort of fitting the cams I'd say no.

There could be benefits from just fitting adjustable pulleys to your standard cams.

So you would fit pulley's on stock cams and not fit MR cams it would take 30 mins to swap the cams over if you had the belts off anyway to replace the pulleys.

NO, haha see your point though, was just pointing out that similar gains could be had with the current cams set correctly.

no, shocked at you'd recommend that for customers, dont think Ive seen any other tuners/traders recommend over 360-380hp.

(although over the years these figures do seem to creep higher)

Some tend to say 380 and others tend to say 360 but the fact remains that some engines can take it and some can't.

There is a lad in Birmingham with a V that is running just over 400 BHP. I think it is at 407 but unsure as to the exact figure as it has been quite a while since the time he showed me the print out.

Personally, I say 360 is a reasonably "safe" figure where you can kind of rest assured that your engine will not let you down on a IV, so on a V, I would say around 380 or so.

As stated by Jamie, you would be hard pressed to find a Tuner that offers warranty on mapping, even if it was at 280!

I can also understand why a Tuner would take the car to it's limit or just short of it for a print out and then bring the boost down to run it safe once done.
