hey, you'll have to excuse me cos ive set up a few threads on here about my evo 4, but I need help and advice because id like the car to run 1 bar or 15psi boost but right now it doesn't want to know!
just to let everyone know its a gsr import 1996, the motor is recently rebuilt and its running actuator pressure which on my guage shows about 8psi on full throttle.
the mods are apexi induction kit, forge vent to atmos dump valve and a full 3" de cat stainless exhaust, oh and the speedo is converted to read mph.
here is the confusing bit, as far as im aware if I take the looped pipe from the bottom of the turbo off the actuator and bung it then plug in the pipe that comes from the small black unit in the wing and plug that into the actuator, the e.c.u should then control a sensible boost right?
well on mine when I do that and drive it the needle on the guage flies past 0.5 bar and it nearly hits 1 bar and the motor is just going over 4000rpm then I get the worst what feels like fuel cut, the rpm just hits a wall and its game over!
so the question is whats going on and how can I get it to accept a bar of boost? the plugs are standard, do I need colder ones? I also have a mechanical bren device boost valve in the house would that work? or do I have to send the e.c.u away to a specialist and have a stage 1 chip put in like my mate did with his import gtst skyline?
has anyone else had this problem?
cheers
luke!

1. Don't compare mapping to a skyline. It's a different car.
2. You have read and understood all your other posts and answers right??
3. You want to run more boost but it's not fully run in yet?!

Your hitting fuel cut at 1.2bar
Std solenoid is more than likely knackered or you plumbed in wrong.
Ecu controlled boost is most likely 0.8bar, similar to actuator pressure anyway.

okay

thanks rsv rob, yes I am cofusing to say the least aren't I !
well just recently ive learned that the motor is on 2000 miles since a total re build and 400 miles since big end bearings were done again this time for a.c.l ones, I don't know why the first big end bearings gave up after just 1600 miles but it has been done properly now that's the main thing.
also the oil and filter has been changed 3 times since re-build always with mobil 1 fully synth.

anyhoo yes I want the car to be at stage one, I presume that's around 15psi boost pressure, that's what I want, I have owned 6 turbo cars before this with between 12 and 21 psi boost and to me, my evo running about 8 just feels a bit flat and depressing!

so for now im really just collecting information so I know what to buy to achieve stage 1 but I do plan hopefully to change oil and filter again then go to stage 1 in about another 600 miles and put it on the rollers to make sure it runs safe....

so....

so people what do I need? a good boost guage that reads p.s.i is on my list but apart from this what do I need?

electronic boost controller?
hks fuel defender?
walbro 255 fuel pump?
fuel pressure reg?

or I heard that my evo 4 will run on an evo 5 ecu, so if im lucky I might find a 5 ecu remapped to stage one for sale then ill just have to up the boost to what the donor car was on I presume?

can someone tell me exactly what I have to buy to run a reliable 15psi with no fuel cut and hopefully no all over the place rich or lean running?
thanks loads
luke!

cheers!

thanks again rsv rob! so basically the walbro pump is a must as is a good electronic boost controller I think, but please don't tell me I have to change the injectors?! surely not for 15 psi ?

that just leaves mapping, I guess ill have to look out for an evo 5 ecu

although I am surprised because I thought that if you can up the fuelling to the extra boost then the a.f,m should meter the afr reasonably??
