You said you let it run low, maybe a bit to low. the pump will pick up crud from the bottom of the tank and pump it to the filter causing a block.

Did you change the filter before or after letting it run low? As mentioned could be the plug gap setting. Did you make sure the lead sits flush on the rocker cover? i found i had to push the leads down firmly for them to sit 'home'

Quite true on both accounts buddy!

Hence me asking how much fuel he has put in.

Change the filter and check the leads to ensure that they are down completely.

You should never let the fuel run so low, picking up crud from the bottom is the least that can happen Clinton.

how low on fuel did you run it? if seriously low then obviously it will cut out as the fuel pump will be getting starved.

I say myth regarding running low on fuel causing problems picking up crud and blocking filters.

when the car is running the fuel is going through 2 filters at the rate of 250 litres per hour and one of those filters is sat at the bottom of the fuel tank anyway........how would crud get a chance to build up?

I used the term crud against my better judgement because you had used it first and I thought it sounded nicer then what I was going to say ;)

I was going to say "crap" but thought that it was not befitting some one like moi!!!

I was going to suggest that there are contaminants is the tank that sit at the bottom and manage to get sucked up when the tank is very low.

It happened to Dave's III a couple of weeks back as he has a quick fill neck on his car and when we removed the tank we found that there were rust deposits amongst other things that were getting sucked up by the pump. The worrying thing was that there was water in there too and it was sitting at the bottom as it is heavier than fuel.

who used it first? I was just being pc also ;)

you'll only really see a rust in the tank if the car is left for long periods with low fuel and hence the water you seen due to the condensation.

always a good idea to fill the tank if your storing the car for long periods (although the fuel will be pretty poor when it comes to using the car again but at least the tank should stay clean)

I think he will be fine if he fills the tank up to the brim and adds an additive to be honest Mark.

I am sure we will be in agreement on this one. If not then we can add the plugs debate into this one too  :D :D.....remember that one? :whistling: :whistling: :whistling:

intermittent missfire might be plugs, what did you gap them to?

Gapped them before fitting i think it might be a lead breaking down cause its only when the engine gets really hot!!

have you got any spare leads to try?

could also be coilpacks breaking down (can be tested with a multimeter)

what sort of reading would you suspect.....if it's only breaking down when hot....put up a post around this sort of thing only happening to mine at 6000rpm....don't think its the plugs, but maybe the coil packs...

What do you think??
