im just lucky that my mates good with cars im learning as i go mate like you lol. you dont have to do all that im doing if its just the crank get one from a breakers off el or the lads ine the garage might find something for ya you will will only need new berings with it. might cost about 400 in parts it labour that the might charge the most for, as i found when you want to take something small off the car you have to take 4 or 5 different things off to get at what you want lol. its not a small job to tke out the crank:disgusted:

That'll be me then lol thought I was you best mate not just a mate, going to cry now all over my posh IPad 2 lol:(

well here is the update so far as requested.

spoke with autotorque today.

they have checked out the turbo and all seems well and good there, they have checked all the vaccume lines trying to find if there is a leak and nothing obvious although they think there is still a leak (minor in comparison)
compression test has come back fine so basically its been narrowed down to my worste fear, internal in the engine.

as it stands at the moment im gonna be takin the car back next week and im toying with the idea and doing some research on taking apart the engine to find the prob, could be little or big end but just dont know.

a rebuild has been roughly priced and it is a lot more expesive than buying a new engine and having it fitted so at the moment im unsure what route to go down. as i dont have a money tree in the back garden i have no option than to take on the job myself and take it slowly. im working out my monies to see if i can stretch to a new engine and in spare time rebuild mine myself as some practice and sell on at a later stage to recoop some monies.

any thoughts welcome, its gonna be a while til the cars back on the road

Thats a bit of a bad news mate. Dont worry I feel your pain !

But building it yourself is a whole new level and not the part of the job I'll be taking on myself. I'll take the head off yea but when you think what it could cost again if you do something wrong or not quite right then it's best left to the experts.
I've taken many an engine out an various other jobs from full car strip and rebuild to installing a radio but engines I think are best left to the experts :)

Well by the looks of it ill be saving for a new engine or maybe just the block not sure yet its all money at the end of the day.

Here's a thought would the knock sensor show up on diagnostics when its plugged in I've heard a few people talk about this before where the knock sensor picks up a prob and cuts the power

I'm not sure about the knock sensor.
Surly if it's as bad as a big end bearing then autotorque should be able to tell the difference between that and a boost leak ?!

Well the guy at autotorque is hell bent there is 2 issues one being the noise and the other the lack of boost. I say its the same problem as I was accelerating the tapping noise started and it was like I had lifted my foot off the gas so I say its the same thing. Way I c it is the boost leak if there is one is the minor part I can buy or make a test kit for less than 20 quid and I have a compressor now so that's a DIY job. The problem is locating the bigger issue

just spoke to my dad he said he will pick up my car and take it back to his. he has a hgv workshop with ramps and all nessesary toolz, ill be bookin a couple of weeks off soon to go and see him anyways so between us in the workshop im going to tear down the engine and check the big and little ends, if either have gone i will replace put back together and go from there. its what has been said to me that it will be one or the other poss both and my biggest problem is the labour so im going to do this first and in the meantime get saving just in case i need to replace it. for my current situation tis is my only option, means the car will be about 100 miles from me so cant pop to the car after work but hey ho.

out of curiosity have you had the maf sensor checked? not that it would cure ur tapping noise but if ur maf sensor is broke then that could explain it not going over 3000 revs :)
