I have had the car plugged in and no fault has been detected but as we all know that's not always the case.

Apreciate that mate my dads picking the car up on Saturday as he has space to store it and also I'm going there next month so I can make use of his workshop he is up in Boston so not quite local grr

No, a knock sensor by itself cannot restrict power. The sensor is the ears of the ecu. If the sensor is damaged, then it will not give the proper feedback to the ecu, and if there is knock for instance the ecu will not retard timimg and you could severely damage your engine.


I believe no, it will not show up on evoscan.

cheers mate will do. im off to my dads next sunday he picked my car up today. i have been given a glimmer of hope one of the drivers who my dad services his lorry well he has an evo and whn my dad said about picking up my car to him he jumped in with a problem he had, he was sure it was engine as its the same syptoms as mine and after tearing apart the engine and putting it all back together and still just the same they moved onto the coil pack which turned out to be the problem............ maybe wishful thinking in my case but worth a try, but my dad has also sourced me an engine cheap just in case, full service history not sure on miles and its less than a grand

well i got the call i been waiting for today from corten miller. after an hour or two on the car they have found that i have spun no1 big end and 2,3,4 are on their way too.

needs rebuild with new rods, shells, crank, oil pump.

new engine time me thinks, ill get the car back, get the engine out and ready for transplant, car will be off road for a few more months while i get up the dosh and the time to get back up to my dads where the cars staying, makes sense its in a workshop so the right place to do the job, its safe and sound so see how it goes. hoping to have the engine out by the weekend all being well

sad times but at least i finally know for sure what direction to go in

Bad times Craig but at least you know now. It's been a long and expensive journey but least you now know where you stand and what you need to do

There are a couple of how to's next door that will help with engine removal if you wanna spend some time round there searching. Also search YouTube for how to remove clutch throw out bearing as it's quite fiddly and just one I've those you only master after you have done a few lol

Cheers mate ill need all the help I can get I think. I'll have a look over the road and see what they have. As much as I know is that you have to drop the engine out the bottom as opposed to out the top sounds fun to me lol. I've just been pricing up parts and I think I would rather just replace it and maybe re do my engine to recoop some costs further down the line

Yea search engine removal/ gearbox removal etc best to have a good read first cos there is loads of things that people have done and showing how things are done.

I'd look for a second hand engine if it was me. Plenty of low milage stuff out there
