loud tapping noise under load and lost power

I spoke with Chris at autotorque yesterday I'm going to do the tappets as my first solution failing that its goin up to autotorque. The cars sorned off the road so I have the tax and petrol money for repairs and as from the 9th ill be covered on all cars should I need to get around. A sticking tappets has been mentioned a few times now by couple of people so I'm makin it my first mission. I have put all the standard pipes back on now also to rule that out of the power problem. The car maybe off the road for a month or two while its fixed

Mate just get it down to autotorque. You could be throwing money away by changing this and changing that but not actually fixing the problem. Also I can't see how a sticky lash would cause loss of power.

Chris said that he has seen it before where a tappet is stuck in than closed position and he said lash replacment is a good place to start with than car now sorned gettin it recovered and out and about is now a little more tricky wouldn't be a problem if my mates recovery truck wasn't smashed into yesterday and he isn't in a rush to fix it. Everyone who has looked at it heard it or heard of it is saying tappets and most people ate saying ill be better off replacing them either way so in this down time ill spend the money to start replacing stuff car needs cambelt too as it wernt done when should have been. Think its gonna be a long expensive road anyways ill get it up to Chris when I have done the lashes

Have you taken the rocker cover off yet ?

I was talking to antony today and he said it could have spat one of the rockers off. This would cause the valve not to work properly and explain the loss of power

yh that was mentioned too, i not got the head off yet i ordered the lash adjusters today should arrive tomos and im going to order the tool to depress the spring to make the job a hell of a lot easier. ill get everything before i start dismantling, think thats next weeks plans.

if one of the rockers has popped off i suppose they will need replacing too aye

the way it drives feels like it is, its really lumpy, like the maf is unplugged (but its not lol)

ill see how it goes after the adjusters get replaced, i spoke to ma mate 2nite he has bought another recovery truck im just trying to negotiate the money per mile to get it to ayelsbury lol

You don't need to remove the head, just the red cover. Around a dozen 10mm bolts hold it on and anyone could remove it.

If the rocker has jumped out then just re fit it.

No need for special tool, just use a prybar like everyone else does

yh rocker cover thats what i meant, well ive ordered the lashes now so even if it has jumped ill fit the new ones anyway, getting some tools next couple days as my brother has a habit or borrowing em and losing em, halfords trade card here i come lol

Get halford professional. If you break it they replace it just like snap-on do

I have one and will be doing my tappets tomorrow. However I have been told by several well respected members over the road to just clean them out instead of replacing them. One of them (Cossie1) said he changed his original ones to 3mm ones, then they started ticking 1 month later, so he cleaned out the stock ones and re-fitted them and they have been fine ever since.

So I'm gonne be cleaning my stock ones out instead of replacing them. Will do an oil change at the same time.

Maybe he had some faulty ones if they started ticking that soon after ill prob do mine after work one day next week 105 for some uprated ones is the cheapest I found so I bit their hand off, I've still got that guide you sent me Herman so ill use that for refrence

Have just got back from fitting the new lash adjusters and they have made no difference. The tapping is still there around 3k and still lost power looks like its a job for autotorque

might sell my old ones for a few pennies now i know they were fine oh well. i didnt expect it to be fixed nothings ever that simple
