My pleasure and please feel free to ask whatever questions you like, to ensure you get the true facts, rather than the normal misinformation that gets spread by the numerous nitrous 'experts', that unfortunately the Internet has created.

I doubt any of our members currently use nitrous on their cars so we may well be ill-informed.
Very strange considering how many Evo customers we've had over the years.

Is NOS road legal in UK?
When I first started with nitrous (35 years ago),the answer to that question was vague, because there was no law to say it was illegal but as no insurance company would insure a car that used it (for no reason other than they didn't understand it),that technically made it illegal.
However, after a number of years of proving how reliable our systems were and a few more years educating Adrian Flux insurers of this fact, we managed to persuade them to change their stand on nitrous. They are now prepared to offer all our customers insurance cover and as a consequence nitrous use is now totally street legal.


Can you use it on the road or does it have to be reserved for track use? I've seen mixed views on this.
The mixed views are as a consequence of the following;
1) Those nitrous 'experts' I mentioned above, who rather than learn the truth from a 'true' expert, take it upon themselves to spread yet more misinformation.
2) NO other nitrous company has taken the trouble to make the use of their products safe or to try and persuade the insurance industry, that they are (mainly because they AREN'T & they can't be bothered),while we now have at least 3 companies behind us.
3) Occasionally these companies make mistakes (due to changing staff & lack of training) and either refuse to offer our customers cover or offer cover to those using other brands. FYI if a customer reports back to me that they have been refused insurance cover, I'll contact the company and rectify the situation.

Each customers insurance situation is different, depending on numerous factors but in general it should be possible to get insurance cover from one of the companies we have arrangements with, to cover road use and not be limited to off road use.

for argument sake a standard evo mr rods will safly run 400bhp there are a few will say they have had more than that, upto around 420=430 all of which been done with mitsi turbo.

so are you saying you can then get these cars up to 450-480 ? cos i fail to see how it would be reliable ??

YES and more.

First of all before I explain why, let me state that in 35 YEARS and THOUSANDS of customers, ranging from 10cc model cars right through to 950 CI (yes that's 15,000+ ccs),we've NEVER had a rod failure.

Second, I'm frequently told that certain engines have rod or crank weaknesses/limits but I've never paid any mind to them for the reason given above, yet despite that fact we STILL have never had a customer report a rod failure.

There are 2 main killers of conrods/motors;
1) Excessive inertia loads due to high rpm use
2) Detonation.

Dealing with the last first, detonation is more likely on a turbo motor, than a turbo/nitrous motor, because the intake charge temp is higher on a turbo only motor, as nitrous super cools the intake charge, as it 'normalises' in the intake system.

Nitrous flow is unrelated to rpm (unlike all other tuning methods),that is to say, a motor does not need to be revved higher to get more charge in the cylinders. In fact the reverse is the case, as the cylinders will fill with more nitrous per cycle at lower rather than higher rpm.

The higher you rev a motor the more the load on the rods increases. It is not just a matter of doubling the rpm doubling the inertia loading, as it is an exponential increase, so for example; the load at 3,000 rpm may be (A) but at 6,000 rpm it might be (4 x A) and at 9,000 rpm it could be as high as (16 x A),so you can see that using higher rpm is potentially seriously detrimental.

For anyone not aware of what inertia loads are, simply put, they are the sum of the weight of the reciprocating components multiplied by the force propelling those components upwards, which itself is dependent on rpm.

By using nitrous over a lower working rpm range it is possible to achieve improved performance at reduced inertia loads.

For anyone who is interested, the inertia loads created while the rpm is rising is nothing to those created after peak rpm has been reached and the throttle shut off.
The reason for this is that the intake charge acts as a counter balance (or damper) to the otherwise rising inertia loads. However, once you shut off the throttle, you remove the counter balance and the full extent of the inertia loads is applied to the rods & bolts, etc.

This is why people often report rod failure not while accelerating but shortly afterwards, which is almost always a surprise to them.

I'd be happy to do so but I don't want to infringe on any rules against promoting my business but if that's not a problem then by all means.

For now I'm trying to limit my posts to responding to factual questions, without being too specific about my products.

Thanks for posting Trevor , after you letting me about all this , i will be giving you a ring sometime this week as im definitely more than interested in your kits, hopefully sort out a kit for my car and give it that boost it needs! ;)
