hello i am new to the forum and im currently the proud owner of a '04 MR(pics coming shortly) i have recently made some modifications to the car including a brand new DC cat back exhaust, lightweight exedy flywheel and a AEM ram air intake. I am considering taking my car up another notch and installing nitrous as i want to take it to pod and set some times. i have been looking round certain plces at different nitrous oxide kits , i am not very familiar with them and what kind of goods and bad's that come with them. i am from the UK and in the yorkshire region. i did find a site the other day a couple of scrolls down from a search called ''The Wizards of NOS''. i then went onto look around some other forums to see if anyone had any feedback about their products and if they have got a good background? After looking on their website i watched a few videos of their kits being fitted onto various cars on top gear and fifth gear.

Does anyone know if they are any good from experience of using their products or if they know anyone or have heard about people using their products and what their views are on the products?

Thanks ,

Lewis :)

Their products may be top notch, but I would shy away from nitrous right now. A relatively stock Evo can see comparable gains from other upgrades that are much more reliable. I suggest finding an engine tuner in your area and having the boost turned up and ecu remapped. It'll prove to be more reliable and get you the same, if not more, gain in power. Nitrous on forced induction cars is usually reserved for cars with large turbos to help them spool faster.

back again... sorry about the wait since the last post.. in the time since the last post , i have managed to have a remap. I would like to say though, going back to the last post... why do you think that nitrous is unreliable?

I looked further into 'Wizards of NOS' products etc. and found their forum (NITROUS OXIDE ( nos / n2o ) advice forum • Index page).

I had a quick scan through some of the members posts on their and by the looks, it was happy customers with no record of unreliability anywhere but this may just be down to the fact that it is their own forum and that everyone on there has nothing bad to say about them.

I would like to know if there is anyone on here that has any verification on here that can say that their products are good and completely reliable?

I also saw a kit from them which would suit my MR perfectly and it was called 'sb150i' which stands for 'street blaster'.

I have a link here : SB150i Nitrous Kit

Thanks,

Lewis.

I personally think the money could be spent on better mods to give you the power permanently, rather than a shot of power in a can.

I agree with the above, take the money you would spend on nos and install go to somewhere like indigo and say give me more power, and you won't have to mess around with filling up nos and you can use the power when ever you want, torque all the time not Jus at the touch of a button or full throttle.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but nos is just air, so what about the extra fuel to go with it ??

Surly running incorrect fuel ratio for alot of short periods of time will in damage the engine :)

Lee u have a wet shot it will put fuel and nos in at the same time through a pregressive controller so no need to map it in dry shot is a different story

Hi and welcome :)

I had NOS in a 7 about a year ago. It came with the kit ready installed. Unfortunately my brother got hold of the car and used it all up (the little sh**) so I didn't get to use it but he said was very quick with it :) I bought the car to sell on so I didn't refill it and can't really comment on it. As Steve220 has said above, you're better off using that money on permanennt gains

Hi everyone,

My name is Trevor Langfield and I'm the Managing Director of Highpower Systems International Limited, commonly known as the Wizard of NOS.

Lewis contacted me and asked a few questions, then pointed me to this forum/thread, as he'd been told a number of things that were incorrect here.

For anyone interested in the factual answers to his questions, I've dealt with them below, even though I've already given Lewis the answers personally.

Does anyone know if they are any good from experience of using their products or if they know anyone or have heard about people using their products and what their views are on the products?

Thanks ,

Lewis :)
FYI most if not all of the quickest EVO's in Europe use our Wizard of NOS nitrous systems, producing relaible and outstanding results.

Their products may be top notch, but I would shy away from nitrous right now. A relatively stock Evo can see comparable gains from other upgrades that are much more reliable.
I have a few comments to make about that ill informed statement;
1) No other product can make the same levels of performance that a WON nitrous system can deliver. No other product is capable of making so much torque at such low levels of rpm or is capable of adding the same levels of power throughout the entire rpm range.
2) There is no product more reliable than WON nitrous systems.
3) When fitted, set up and used correctly, the engine will be at least as reliable as when making the same peak power increase by any other means and can be much safer if desired.
Unlike other methods of enhancing performance, it is unneccessary to use high rpm and is actually beneficial to use a lower rpm range. Since increased rpm equates to increased inertia loading and that is the main cause of component failure, using a lower rpm range is advantageous.

I suggest finding an engine tuner in your area and having the boost turned up and ecu remapped.
Increasing boost will not produce the same level of performance gain and it will put the engine under greater load.
For example; a 50 HP 'peak' increase created by higher boost, would not produce the same level of performance improvement, as a 50 HP 'peak' increase created by nitrous, because it is possible to see a 50 HP gain across the entire rpm range using nitrous, plus the torque increase would be substantially higher than when boost is increased.

It'll prove to be more reliable and get you the same, if not more, gain in power.
Totally incorrect. IF that were the case, why do all the quickest Evos (and most other turbo cars) add our system, rather than increase boost further.

Nitrous on forced induction cars is usually reserved for cars with large turbos to help them spool faster.
Again totally untrue, as we have customers ranging from modest size turbo's on modest boost levels, all the way up to the biggest, highest boosting turbo's out there.

All well and good the fastest evos in the world may use it what stage of modification do they have nos installed?

at the ops state of mods at the moment I think it's too early to even think about nos

If I had 700bhp and I wanted to shave some time off my quarter mile times maybe then I'd consider nos

Yes nitrous power is exhaustible but so is your petrol supply but that doesn't stop you using it. ;)

In my experience most turbo cars have adequate power for 'permanent' use and adding more on a 'permanent' basis is rather pointless, when you'll only have the opportunity to use higher levels of power occasionally.

If there is a good reason for not using nitrous that isn’t it, especially when;
1) Most of my customers consider it an advantage to retain normal power (etc.) most of the time.
2) Nitrous on turbo motors is far more effective than on a NA car, so it lasts up to 3 times longer.

To be exact it's extra 'oxygen' and a 'wet' nitrous system includes the hardware to supply the extra fuel required as and when required.

A correctly designed and jetted nitrous system will ensure the mixture stays correct at all times.

How would you know if you didn't get to try it????

Thanks for all the info Trevor.

I doubt any of our members currently use nitrous on their cars so we may well be ill-informed.

Is NOS road legal in UK? Can you use it on the road or does it have to be reserved for track use? I've seen mixed views on this

Many of my customers start with nitrous as their first mods, because it's very well known that it's the most cost effective way to achieve a given performance improvement.
Some of them decide they'd like to have the same 'peak' power levels available from turbo alone and then use the nitrous on top of that.
Other people miss out on nitrous in the early stages of their search for the ultimate performance and only add it at some elevated turbo power level.

It's never too early to not only think about it but to actually use it. We even have some customers who buy a system for their 50 cc scoots at the age of 16 and transfer the system to other vehicles as they progress through life.

If I had 700bhp and I wanted to shave some time off my quarter mile times maybe then I'd consider nos
Glad to hear it but till then you're missing out, because whatever power level you have now, WON nitrous can enhance it.

BTW all nitrous systems are NOT the same and you'd be wise to avoid other brands that do not benefit from our 35 years of R&D.
