Geek/Independant Mappers Accountability

Was talking with a fellow Evo owner today and the topic of Geek/Private mappers became topic of conversation. Now as good a job as these guys do, a few failures have come to light of late which MAY have been the result of poor mapping by these people who offer such a service. Question I have, are they accountable for the work carried out?? IE, should a failure occur and it be the result of the cars map, should the geek/private mapper be liable?? Geeks/Independants feel free to comment. This is far from a criticism, just purely a matter of interest :)

there are only 3 or 4 people allowed to use the term geekmapping/mapper/mapped anyone else using this term is a pure FAKE.
they may be mappers but in no way allowed to call them self geek mappers

IMO your mapping needs to be pretty bad to make it fail, plus you be surprised how many people "mess" after mappings been done

Mapped an Evo 4 to 1.4 bar, threw a leg out of bed, 3 days later, I felt very bad for him, found out by a close friend who also new him that he went in the car said it was quick for a 4 running 1.8 bar!!!!.......

Doesn't surprise me Si. Very grey area hence my thread :) I can imagine on a punters point of view, they will feel the person responsible for the mapping should be liable. But from the mappers point of view, they can't be held responsible if further things have been done since they carried out there tune.

6 of 1, half a dozen of the other

Or even something as trivial as a vacuum hose popping off after mapping cause of the extra boost, causing it to run lean........... I do like to use 3 ports because for the extra time to set up is worth it so people can't mess

You pay less for the map, there is less accountability, in my opinion thats part of the risk you take. No offence to any mapper, i expect lots of these mappers are better than some that work for tuning companies.

Tuned cars go wrong, simple as that, we all know the risks of going for more power. That wouldnt stop most of us though.

I'm not having dig at CPP, was using that as an example to your comment on geeks offering there services through established companies :) CPP are one of the better companies out there as far as I'm aware :)

This is true Si. Would it not be worth while getting a customer to sign a disclaimer after explaining all the risks to avoid any comeback? Or would it put too many people off??
