Not a bad idea gassin it!

I heard though that when you convert the engine to gas, the engines life is halved. You had any upsets yet pal?

Shouldn't effect engine life at all.

This may be true in some cases. I.e. old rover engines (range rovers), honda's etc.

LPG burns slower, which means its still burning/hotter when the exhaust valves open. The head acts like a heatsink for the valves, in the same way the block does for the pistons/rings. This is where the problems occur.

However, on the more modern systems, you can advance the timing, which gives more power and more safety in this case.

Onto of that the peak cylinder pressures are lower while the mean pressures remain similar so you get the same power output with less stress on the engine. In a similar way you do with E85. (more power on stock engines safely)

The major downfalls are added weight, and the fact LPG is generally done to save money rather than gain performance so isn't really geared for big HP builds.

just to say that i have never seen any car that produces the same power output from gas compare to high octane fuel

as El mentioned it would be good to see the dyno from the two.
perhaps evo's are the best to gas convert, never know'' :p

How many people do you know that fitted gas to go quicker? ;) Infact how many evo's do you know with gas fitted?

IIRC somebody put an evo on the rollers, it made more power on gas than vpower.

Major saving on petrol - But as everyone says, it would be a great idea to do a rolling road on lpg and on v-power.

I have been using lpg for about 8 years now. One of the best things invented :)

You can get upto 108 RON with the lpg

I still use it today. On Honda Accords, the valves tighten up after around 30k miles and with an adjustment another 30k (taxi drivers use it and this is what happens to the Accords).

The newer systems are brilliant. My last car was an Aristo TT mk1 on lpg with BPU (Basic Performance Upgrade). I used to get approx. 200 miles per £25 lpg :)

I raced a Lambo Gallardo and he couldn't get away. At the lights I laughed at him and ripped piss! lol

He then cheated and set off just before lights turned green and I still caught him!

There was an evo 9 not far from me that was running on lpg.

So the cost of having the head work done will soon be made up for via the increase in MPG???.............very nice!!!
