I heard though that when you convert the engine to gas, the engines life is halved. You had any upsets yet pal?
Shouldn't effect engine life at all.
This may be true in some cases. I.e. old rover engines (range rovers), honda's etc.
LPG burns slower, which means its still burning/hotter when the exhaust valves open. The head acts like a heatsink for the valves, in the same way the block does for the pistons/rings. This is where the problems occur.
However, on the more modern systems, you can advance the timing, which gives more power and more safety in this case.
Onto of that the peak cylinder pressures are lower while the mean pressures remain similar so you get the same power output with less stress on the engine. In a similar way you do with E85. (more power on stock engines safely)
The major downfalls are added weight, and the fact LPG is generally done to save money rather than gain performance so isn't really geared for big HP builds.
