Driveshaft issues quick video.

After taking my wheels off to get a set of tyres about a week ago, I ended up having more work on my hands than I thought. Long story short, I needed to take the shocks off to replace the coilover rings and the CV joint decided that it didn't want to stay on the driveshaft when I put the suspension back together, the wheel on and went to move the car.

After pulling it the joint apart again, replacing half of the circlip that I found in the boot and putting the joint back on, I'm now left at this point.

Should there be this much movement in both parts?

Any help or advice would be great. Is it worth taking the boot off again and replacing the circlip or is it a matter of getting a new driveshaft?:cry:

Did the drive shaft knock? As the lateral movement is ok, but i'm not sure about the movement side to side as it does this anyway.

thats fine, the inner joint is a cup with 3 bearings , it can move back and forth,just dont pop it out .

No knocking or clicking. Had a real judder when driving. Could the lack of a circlip cause that or wear on ball joint etc? Thanks for the help so far guys.

it wont stay put without the circlip,esp if the car is lowered...you are driving w/o the circlip??? that just wont work mate.

camskill has replacements/refurb kits, or try dave@ears motorsport...he always seems to have the hardest to find bits i stock.

Basically it's half a circlip that I found in the CV boot when I cleaned all the grease out. And yes, the car is lowered. Time to pull the boot back off. The advice is much appreciated.

A few minutes and the boot was off.

Spent an hour or two today getting a clip and reached the problem of putting the CV boot over the shaft with the clip on. Am I fighting a losing battle attempting this or is there a way to do it?

shaft--boot on shaft,circlip on shaft -then push joint onto shaft --done



tell us whats goin on, what about pics??

Got it all together again but it was a waste of time. Still have a juddering above 15mph. Think the ball joint could be the problem? I can see the wee boot is busted in about half a dozen places.

the balljoint boot is available separately, if water gets in there,the joint will get washed out,rust and snap..you dont want that.

get the boot fixed now!

then check your wheels for balance/tyre for flat spots etc , trackrod ends and trackrods themselves.
