But if the cat is still fitted dont I need a 260 decat because of the orientation of the flanges? I think it could be a 260 aftermarket down pipe so the cat could be retained cheers

If you have a non cat front pipe sounds like its been replaced with a jdm front pipe, but you still have a cat so i assume its a jdm cat not a 260 cat if you get me

So the down pipe has been changed and a different cat fitted to suit ?

Not sure but think its when u start changing exhaust and filter ect they help the car control boost.

Anything with a Turbo needs a controller. If you intend to change the boost from std factory settings either a standalone controller or ecu remap to suit...

this is what im asking rob. my corsa was stage three at 243 bhp and that didn't have a boost controller. so does that mean the ecu was in control? if so why cant the ECU be in control of the evo's boost rather than a boost controller?

It did have a boost controller mate, it just was ecu controlled instead of a control box mounted inside the car.

The Evo ecu is currently controlling boost and all is required is to change the standard boost solenoid and remap the ECU

Any evo or infact any turbo car has some sort of controller. If you only drive the cars and know nothing about them then you have several choices...
1. Ecu controlled
2. Manual controller/dawes device
3. Standalone electronic controller
4. Actuator controlled only

The last choice is not advised as it is the last chance to control the boost. With the others they work inline with the actuator. So if they fail you resort back to what the actuator is set at.

the last one I know too well about, so many people fiddled with it themselves and blew something up. so with number two, setting it manually....how does it come about? does it have to be installed to run along side the new ecu re-map?

Yes. If you adjust the boost any more than std your better of getting it mapped and everything checked.
That way you know everything is safe and working properly.
At the cost of fitting a quality dawes device to control it manually, your better of paying a little more and fitting a 3port along with a remap.
