Balance belt change

Right people. Does anyone have or know of a how to guide for the best way to change the balance belt with the engine in situe? My dad put the belts on when the engine was out when I don't the bottom end.

I think my balance belt timing is slightly out and it's causing a reverberating noise at about 3.5k and has done since engine went back in but I always put it down to the exhaust rattling. Basically I just need to re time the belt. I can see it being a bit of a pain but do able of course

I'm guessing its a case of jack under sumo engine mount on OS removed to allow movement one engine and associated bolts.

A timeframe would be helpful if people have done this already to theirs

yh its easy enough when the engine is out of the car like when i done it before but there isnt too much room down that side of the block in situe

You could looks to drop the engine off the mounts and push it across in the bay, would offer up enough roof to access everything as like you said its all really tight

Just lower it down off its mount by cambelt.
It's a bit of an up and down type of job so best to rest the engine on a trolly jack and block of wood to protect the sump so you can raise and lower it as required

You'll need to rotate the engine a few times before you get everything to line up. Don't just assume it right the first rotation.

wouldnt mind getting shot of my balance belt, seem to be more problemful than they are worth, need the cambelt changing when I drop the cams in so would make sense to do it then. That said it depends on what its like to do with the engine in the car, have heard its far from ideal

Not possible to remove the shafts while still in the car. Full engine strip down near enough.

Yh the shafts won't come out in situe, could get away with dropping the subframe enough to clear the oil pump section, rear shaft slides out but front one you need the pump off

Yh the belts not a prob the question was deleting it from the post above, to delete it needs to come out

U need to strip the block to removed the balance shaft bearings and then replace them half a turn out to blanc oil way to bearing in the block! Def not something u can do with engine in the car!

Don't bother trying to remove them just check there correctly aligned.
