Had a cam belt go @ 140mph on a charity passenger ride day a brunters at the weekend so the evo is now in pieces ready for a slightly early winter overhaul and engine rebuild!!!

Traced the failure to a failed balance shaft belt which in turn caused can belt to snap!!
Resulting in 16 bent valves and 4 f**ked pistons and a lot of other little things

So taking opportunity to go for a good sort out plus probably a fully forged motor, depending on funds!

One of the dog punishing the bad cam belt! Lol!

Just one of those things! Worst bit is belts were only 2 years old with less than 7k on them!?!
Could of happened anywhere, so at least it went out with a bang!! ( excuse the pun)

Its sickening when your evo sh*ts itself as ive had this happen me a few times. If you need a brand new set of boxed uprated standard steel valves i have a set from Indigo GT i would sell you if you interested and can send you some pics if your interested.

And even though ur belt was kinda newish i guess a belt can go at anytime,,

Thats why its a good idea to use a balance shaft eliminator kit if you ever have the engine stripped for a rebuild as 1 less belt to worry about.

that was the first thing that never went back on my 2.3 build as its one less thing to take your engine out,proper gutted for you fella but on the pos side you can build a good spec lump and i take it your doing it all yourself by the looks of things which save on labour costs so thats a few grand saving just there

It is best to have the engine is out to fit the balance shaft eliminator kit and not sure if it would be possible with the engine still fitted in the car.
Yea no worries mate and if you need any parts for your spare head let me know as i have a couple of sets of E9 Beehive Springs and Retainers, MR Cams and numerous lash adjusters etc. Least you get the chance now to do what you want to your engine and build the engine you want to have.

It is do able with engine in situ, but bloody awkward and fiddily I fine it just as quick to just drop engine and box out the bottom and lift the car up and pull it out! much easier to work on then with out front chassis leg in the way!
