Hi everyone. Ok so i would like to know how much of boost can a stock evo 4 block handle.. The car runs on Fcon V Pro 2.1 ecu. It has tomei cams 280/11.5. The turbo is GT35. Custom intake. 3inch intercooler piping and 3.5 inch straight exhaust pipe. It runs on 1000cc injectors with 2 walbro fuel pumps. Head gasket is HKS 1.5mm. Wastegate HKS 60mm. There are few more things but i just cant remember.. The block is stock. Currently I am running 1.0 bar of boost but its getting pretty boring so i thought of boosting it slightly more but not sure how much boost it can handle.. Need your opinion guys. TQ

The potential for 500+bhp there but without forged internals and a different block from a 5-9, what a waste of mods!!! :what:

If its a standard 4 block and internals i wouldn't run more than 1.1-1.2 max! Best bet with the mods you got is save up a bit more money and get a 5 or later short engine put in or find a forged lump to go in!
Unfortunately the 4 engine running higher boost is a ticking time bomb!
Sorry to be bringer of bad news!

Ok. Tq very much for your answers. By the way what is the difference between evo 4 internals and evo 5? Compression ratio? How about evo 7 internals my friend has a complete block which I can use or its just a waste of time changing the block?

Simon@Nts pistons and rods are still stock.

It's the block that is different and will give you the problems. Don't think about just changing the internals. As it's only prolonging the inevitable

gt35 with 1 bar of boost on a stock 4 block, wow. What power is it pushing now and how long has it been running that?
What is the rpm limited to?

Did u do the mods ? .... Just seems a waste of money to put all that nice bhp increase on with jelly internals ... A stock 4 block won't last long with all that

You will never get any potential running stock internals, a freshly built forged 4 engine would get you their but due to the poor thrust bearing design is not the direction to take if you've not forged it already. Rule of thumb would be to go for a later 5 onwards block and fully forge that.

As has been said by others, waste of time and money doing anything with the 4 block! If you can have the 7 bottom end off your mate do it!! Have it fully forged or at least a rod job and then you have the potential for a 500+ motor with your existing mods!
Fully forged would be the best option in my opinion for the little extra cost over a rod job its a no brainer rely!

It's been running like that for 2 years now. The thing is I bought the car like that, so the mods where done before me. So i guess the best choice for me is to change the block to e7 and forge it.

oh dear!

ah victor you have the same dilemma as ME!!
I had no idea about the 4 block till AFTER I bought mine!!
although mine has evo 9 crank rods and pistons and acl big end bearings its still on its badly designed half moon washer, albeit a NEW badly designed half moon washer!
my motor is balanced and as such has balancer shaft delete,
its had a full head re-build too and I recently discovered it has an evo 8 turbo,
but still I have to admit that once I get a 5 on ecu and go down the mapping road ill have to keep it at around a bar boost I reckon!
I wanted 1.3 bar, but after thinking about it, yeah it'll prob lunch its bottom end!

one good tip I read on here is if you wanna see how much side movement you have on the crank to test how worn the washer thing is, just use a pry bar against the block and crank pulley wheel, apparently you should only have around 1mm of side movement, any more than that and its not good!
so I read anyway!
can any more senior evo people confirm the pry bar crank test?

With all those mods are you sure it's a std 4 block and internals??
Check the block number and maybe get a camera in the top to check pistons or drop the sump to check internals. For anyone to have all those mods done and not even consider an engine rebuild is stupid. They've spent thousands and all for nothing :what:

Luke sheath yeah I've heard about a crow bar test for a crank walk but I didn't know that evo 4 is the worst one..

RsvRob I think it's std 4. But anyway is there a way or any numbering on the block to find out wether its evo 4 or some other evo block. I'm pretty sure it's got an evo 7 head on it cause its written "EVOLUTION" on top.

Front of the block has the number on it but difficult to see. Google search evo engine number to give you an idea if where it is
