well,
on saturday morning i thought i would check oil and water as you do for the first time and i noticed there was no coolant in the header tank,so i topped it up and went about my business for the day, drove about 50miles max and sat in a little bit of traffic on the a10 for about 10mins. anyways when i got up sunday morning i thought i would check again and the was about 2/3 of the collant gone from the header tank...so i topped it up again and went out and done about 20-30miles drive.. i got back and the level went up a little,so now i am thinking head gasket failed!. i got up today and the coolant level is just under the the full mark and the over flow pipe is bone dry,i mean it has dust in it so i cant see if any coolant has gone, i know if its blowing gases into the collant system it would push all the coolant out through the over flow pipe on the header tank (i think). i have taken the cap off the radiator when doing all this and its always been full with coolant! thinking of getting a sniffer test or a health check, but aint got a clue where to take it around my way (hertfordshire)

anyone got any views on this or should i just bare with it and see what happens and if the coolant disappears again..

Best off doing an oil change then you will know what oil is in it. Use a 5w40 fully synthetic like motul, fuchs or millers

so, am i not meant to put coolant in it?

getting mixed massages here! is the plastic tank just for over flow or should it have coolant in it! as the radiator is full!

Im not 100percent on it either. Read over the road on a thread that it was just overflow. I just keep an eye on level n mines not moved so havent touched it.

the plastic tank will fill up when the engine is warm and empty when the engine is cool, make sure the rad is full of water and then put a bit in the bottom of plastic tank and keep a eye on the rad when its cool if it remains full when it has been warm and cooled down there should be nowt wrong
