Wrap or spray?

I can't see the pics properly as I'm on my crappy netbook but have you put that stuff on the front of the car? The front wings and bonnet are aluminium so they won't rust.

I'm currently trying to get a quote for mine to get a complete respray. If it's about £1000-1500 then I'll probably get it done. If it's around the £2000 mark then I'll probably sell the car cheap and get another one. Probably another 8.

You've gotta think how much you're spending and how much you're adding to the value.
The thing that's making me want to keep it is that mine's in really good nick mechanically but it's just let down by the shabby bodywork :(

it's the doors that have the most chips in, at least i think they are chips lol re spray is gonna cost 1300 for a full one, just want her back to being white not greyish :D

the rest of the car is in top nick runs perfectly and can't fault it at all just a few niggly paintwork issues
so gonna see if the detail will work if not then spray or wrap :)

I reckon paul will be able to detail 70% of it. The rest will need filling and respraying.

I suggest get the areas paul recommend filled and resprayed and then get paul to detail the whole car.

Front bumper defo needs some work.

Your right it probably looks worse with the kurst on it as is >.<

I am sure it will look good in the end though :)

Are you coming up to Notingham to see Paul or is he coming to you?

Been thinking about popping in to see him myself. If you visiting let me know when and I'll see if I can come down. I'd be interested to see what magic he can conjure up!

i'm going up to see him friday afternoon :D

Nice one.

I have a few things on Friday afternoon so may not be able to 'go missing' but will see :)

What sort of time you planning to get there?

If I can make it I'll buy you a coffee and a custard donut and you can tell me about the hard life your EVO has had to endure :)

Sorry to go back to the wrap but im a little confused myself

If the cars splitter or bumper is stone chipped, and the chips have raised the plastic, will it not need snading to make the wrap look smooth anyway or are they just cut off !!!

yea if i go for a wrap then the body work would have to be prepped and cracks filled in and what not in order for it to look good :)

It's the same as wallpaper!!

If it is not smooth underneath then the imperfections will show through.

So in Paulines case the car will at minimum still need to be prepared whether wrap or paint. However, once wrap is on it acts like a stone protection film.

I considered adding a clear stone protection film to my last car to protect from chips

Yeah I figured that so the cost will be alot more than paint in the long run as it only lasts 5 -10 years before it starts to peel off, and the car needs to be sanded, filled etc and primed and painted before a wrap or otherwise its still going to look gaff once the wrap comes off :wtf:

A wrap in that case is for a new car or concours motor and people want it to stay that way ?

Id make sure there was paint underneath it if it was being wrapped mate.

Now ive found out about the life of the wraps, id be body shop every time over a wrap.

i suppose its one of those things drive the car and get road marks or dont and dont enjoy it, just do what I do and respray it when you cant bare it LOL

I'd avoid the wrap idea cos from what I seen it still chips just like paint. My mate had his IX wrapped and was not happy when he got stone chips, I said it was his fault for being so close :)

On this basis how can it last 5 years and should you have say the bumper re done after a year then whats the chances of it matching the rest of the car ?

yea i'm not overly keen on the idea of wrap but that's the whole point of this thread to get the plus's and negatives to each, and so far i'm guessing wrap is not the way forward :)

The life that I was refering to was the adhesive life as ive heard it needs to come off after 5 years on some adhesives and 10 on others ot it starts to eat your paint , but good point lee :)

The stone chips are just one of those things, and im sure a wrap will chip just like paint so no guarantee on that either.

Im also not sure how it takes to certain detailing gear and if it weathers the same as paint so on the matching thing I wouldnt have a clue but as its a plastic (unsure) then colour should remain ???

Colours fade on everything really through don't they, paint fades powder coat fades. I questioned this when I had my roof done. Ad if you look at the vinyl sign writing on my 3 year old work van you'll see that has faded too.
I was just told to wax it and wash it gently so to avoid scratching and swirls.

I think the appeal of a wrap would be to change the colour of either the roof or boot knowing that you can just peel it off when you want to go back to normal.

I'd say the majority of wraps are black and just focused on bonnet or roof and usually on white cars.

Personally I think I would re-paint and then if worried about chips have a clear stone protection film added to the 'hard-wearing' areas such as bonnet and front bumper. Whether these prevent chips i'm not sure?
