wire problems

hi, i've got a problem with my wires please help.
when i turn the key for the ignition so the dash lights come on, a wire from my ignition barrel just melts, had 2 people look at it now and both dont no. any possible imformation for a newbie would be greatful. thank you.

There is a short circuit somewhere causing it to draw too much current, making it heat up and melt the insulation. You are gonna have to trace the wires to see where it has shorted out and fix the problem.

Most likely a dash out job in order to properly trace it. Best advice I can give is do not use the car and disconnect the battery until it's fixed otherwise it could end in tears.

TBH, it could be anything that feeds off the ignition drawing too much current.

it was a great little car I had the 1.8 16v it stuck like shite to a blanket for a fwd !

Just to chip in, I know it sounds daft but check your fuses I've found two evo,s with wrong fuses and tin foil bridging connections, mike evo iv had a fire in his due to this, so just have a quick lookie mate just in case

hi, took all the dash out and found the toad alarm had a fault and melted a couple of wires which then melted on to a dozen more wire, had the alarm removed and the melted wies repaired. new alarm fitted wednesday. but had the car back saturday for the weekend.
