After getting the brakes fitted and the car done at Ants, I drove home like a bat out of hell and had a awesome drive home bu now im getting a whining/Whirring, high pitch grinding . It sounds like it in the car or under it. as when you lift the bonnet and rev the car you cant hear it from the front.

The noise gets louser in 1st as you accelarate, same in 2nd and 3rd but cant hear it in 4th. It also makes the noise on the revs in/out of gear, clutch up or down.

It sounds transmission ?

Ive been having a look around and other people who are decribing the same thing as transfer box, it sounds like it coming form the front IN the car but cant hear it from the engine bay ????

Id like to add I had the best drive of my life coming home though so im smiling from ear to ear :D

idle the car, turn the steering left to right and see if you can hear it still.

Just checked and the noise has gone again but im sure it will come back when she gets a kicking.

The power steering level is half full in the resevoir ?

Idle the car, full left, hold, full right, hold then centre. Do that a few times and it SHOULD get rid of all the air, but i've found it doesn't always :arms:

Done this and it still whirring the noise is following the engine revs it wasn't there for normal driving till I let it have it for a bit and it's back !

I also put power steering fluid in to 3/4 full.

As soon ad it's running right something else ucking goes lmao

On a plus fitted a cold air feed to my filter and max boost has increase from 1.86 to 1.88 so it's done some good ;)

update ive had the cam belt cover off and no signs of wear or rubber anywhere so all ok in there, water pump pulley is fine no cracks or wear, and as the noise changes with enigine revs its got to be something engine driven so my bets are on power steering pump failing as loads of dirt will have come up after the two fluid changes in the last coupke of weeks.

Have a read of his diagnosis, its rev related.

As said it happens when it's not moving aswell so it can't be transfer box it's either ps pump or water pump ... I recon or the tensioner if im lucky

I suspect it's the power steering pump, mine makes a noise since I fitted my spec-r tank
