to add phil havent you looked into e4 thrust bearing conversion?

Engines prone for damage to the crank are the Evo4 as the centre main/thrust bearing isn't desinged for a pull clutch so doesn't get lubricated properly so the thrust faces get worn which is unavoidable
*evo 1-3 used a push clutch and the Evo 5-9 block has a redesigned centre main bearing and oil supply to the centre to cure this*. The E4 are prone for crank walk due to the design and manufacture by
Mitsubishi which was quickly detected and redesigned by
Mitsubishi on the launch of their Flagship and world class leading rally car the E5.
Swapping to a push rod type clutch does rectify the E4 being famous for crank walk and doing the big end bearings but a thrust bearing conversation does prolong this considerably on the E4. The price of a thrush conversion kit for an E4 and fitting it makes for a better option to replace the E4 Block with a later block from an E5-9 and this issue of crank walk, big end bearing issues are sorted although any evo can suffer crank walk but it is very few that do so on an E5-9 block if serviced correctly, regular oil change with a good 10-60w ester oil
The 4G63 engine is a legend and a very strong engine which is capable of massive power and torque and rather cheap to make to a 2.3 engine with the kit being around £1300 if you shop around for the parts. Crank is the stock crank out of another Mitsi car using the 4G64 which are standard in the Mitsi Galant and Eclipse until 2004. The only problem with a 2.3 or 2.4 stroker in an Evo is your lose torque but have massive BHP and BHP is only a man made figure
