Hi all, just need to pick some of yer brains on this little matter

Evo IV engine one piston needs changing out because a stray spark plug. Now been offered a second hand set off an Evo V or I can get a full set and rings brand new from another source, so need to know if I can just swap one out for an second hand Evo 5 or do I need to swap all IV's for V's plus do I need change Conrods from 4 for 5 pistons

Plus what exhaust valves fit the Evo IV like V or IV

Pistons are standard 85mm

Exhaust valves would be the same standard

Many thanks for help of this one

Gudgeon pins are pressed in so best just get a set of pistons and rods, then you need to check engine bores in spec for new rings, if it is bare block it then get it honed, if not scrap it and get a second hand 5/6 engine

Not really option at the moment to change engine, just need to get this baby back together, cylinders will be honed to remove glaze from sides before new rings go in. Gurgeon pins shouldn't really be a problem to get pressed in and out.

Just need to know if these pistons and rods can be mixed and matched, can get hold of used piston and rods from a 5 or new pistons and rings from a five but no rods

I know would be a quick fix but to be honest wouldn't put an 4 back in cause would like to gain bigger bhp in future, and the issue of crank walk would be too great. Not going to cost great deal at the moment, just need to replace one piston and two valves, but I've just been offered second hand pistons and rods for 30 quid but no rings and offered brand new pistons and rings but no rods for slightly more so for time and money this would be quicker and alot cheaper

Hear what your saying but not a quick fix on this, cylinder three spark plug fell apart and chipped piston and valve, before this the engine was totally sound, only covered 63000 boosting through the range with no stutter, no real oil loss and smoke out back with no rattles. No compression loss on any cylinders intill the dreaded spark plug, if memory serves me well, average psi reading for cylinders was 185 or 190, car was a dream

I made the decision that once i had moved house would buy evo 5 6 block and totally recon it with the head in tow and recon other parts that will happen but not at the moment due to funds.

so in a nut shell i only need to change one piston and two valves, but due to tow friends needing to recon their engines i'm in a pair for either second hand or brand new, these consits of

4 X Second hand Piston and rods from 5 No rings
4 x Brand new Piston and rings but no Rods
2 Sets of Big end shells Size 1 and Size 2
1 x Head bolts standard
already had cam belt kit ready for a service

So this is why i was wondering about the pistons and rods from 4 and 5 be a shame to turn down quality parts from friends who are trying to help.

In the near Future car will have a fully recon or fully forged engine going in, but thats when the funds become avail lol
