Which one to buy???...

As above I'm not sure which one to go for next the evo 8 mr fq 400 or a blue evo 9 fq 320 with a 2.2 conversion ??...

Yep, the 400 will hold better value due to it being rare.

I like both but depends what you want. I'd go and drive both and choose the better car

the 400 will not drive the same as IX with 2.2 so unless its just a drive test for tightness, knocks and bangs etc its pointless as the power delivery , handling etc will be totally different.

Just go drive them both and then make a decision based on what you want to do with the car....for that kind of cash though id be looking for a mint mak LOL

The 2.2 would be great fun for power etc but the 400 is a rare car that is super cool IMO...I looked for ages at 400's and couldnt find a good one for sale any where I looked.
Is the 400 a red one ?

Yeah I'm just after a fast road car the fq400 has a different turbo an fb black I think and a AMS intercooler so it's not a true original i suppose and it's done about 30.000 miles

FP chocolate tubbys going by the reviews over the road mate but the intercooler is quality bit of kit !
but it wouldnt be hard to put a standard tubby back on or buy a new one ....30k is nothing for a evo as long as its got FSH mate.

Oh right would u not rate the fp turbos then?? The 9 has about the same amount of miles on it and belive it or not it has the standard fq400 turbo on that..

Just going on what ive read on MLR I wouldnt but then im unsure on how many have been sold and being used on evo's in the uk so maybe a few bad apples spoil the bunch syndrome !

if its the same mileage then for me id be all over the 8 ...on it like a car bonnet mate !


you can always go for a HKS turbo they spool like billy-o aswell then sell the FP black to a unsuspecting victim. :ninja: :razz:

Looks tidy but will need a remap and a new turbo...then possibly fuel system to really get the grunt from the 2.2.

Just remembered is this power at the fly or the hubs ?

Id be asking him why he built a 2.2 then didnt get a turbo to match....maybe the same as my issue when i get my engine forged money as a GT30 costs LMAO
Oh and if its been mapped at TDI then your in good hands there ...I know the TDI lads really well and they are quality ...they worked on my honda's many a time .

my last honda the EP3 was only ever worked on by TDI...I have total faith !

not much in the way of torque for a stroker, the torque curve is mormally horizontal for quite some time before it drops

Yeah u say that about the fuel system it's had a bigger intake manifold hks fuel rail and 1000cc Injectors fuel pump and fuel pressure reg aswell he used that turbo because it's one they had on the shelf at the time.. It was done on a hub dyno but like u said with it being a 2.2 I thought it would of pulled a bit more than that...

Only 400 ft lbs, a stage one 9 with remap can make very close to that and some do!

I'm sure jonnys torque figures ain't far off this

im guessing thats just a piggyback ecu as aposed to a swapped ecu.

if thats the case then im sure most tuners these days can do more with the standard ecu if not then its a complete ecu swap for a vipec/hydra/autronic etc
