Which Evo?

As you can see I'm new to evo's, and as such I'm after some advice from the people in the know.
I've owned quite a few cars, some good, ( Noble M12 ),some not so, ( Vauxhall Vectra sri ),my current weekend toy is a Subaru WR1, ( sorry if that's swearing to you guys ),I'm looking to sell in the near future and was thinking about crossing to the dark side of evo ownership.
Budget is between 10K-15K. Basically, what are the pitfalls, and things to consider when thinking of buying an evo.

got a 57 plate 9 MR FQ 360 with around 45k miles for top end of your budget 18 months ago.
not sure what they go for nowadays - but they're an awesome car to drive, easy to get to 400/400 and yet extremely responsive.

What about general running costs, servicing/parts etc.
How do the different models change.
Are there any weak points with the different models, and something that I should look out for.

Servicing 2 x year - 200-500 depending on which interval
Most will be cheaper end

Consumables are dependent on
driving style - track days etc will eat
Tyres and brake pads

Tyres about 800
Brake pads 400
clutch standard - 500?

Tyres should last 8-10 thousand miles if driven on road 'sensibly' same with brakes and clutch should last 2-3x

There was something in MLR that did all these calculations for you

Yeah, I was aware that servicing can be a bit expensive.
How about model variations, is there a link to show me the differences etc.

This should give you some insight mate

One weak point I'll mention is the 6 speed boxes struggle with high torque, 4th gear in particular. The 5 speed are fine. A rough rule of thumb is anything over 400ft/lb is starting to get into the danger zone, but one guy on another forum is running over 600ft/lb and it hasn't let go..... Yet lol just something to think about when making your plans for the car

600 torque is insane on even a 5 speed normal box - surely be wanting a decent (and very costly) aftermarket transmission to handle that for any amount of time

Haha fair point, but let's not take away from the fact that the 6 speeds aren't great. He did ask about things to be wary of and I think the 6 speed box can be one of them if he's planning on modding

agreed - for any big power increase it is essential to strengthen transmission.
saying that I ran a HKS7460 on my 9 without any trouble on the original six speed - never had it
dyno measured but typically 480-500bhp and 450lbft torque on other 2.0L engines using this turbo.
suppose a lot comes down to the same old story - mechanical sympathy :D

Good helpful link, although my head hurts now after reading about all the different variations, lol.
I tend to have my toys as just that, never daily drivers, not really fussed about track days, generally do less than a couple of thousand miles a year.
I do like things that are different from the norm, so a limited edition, or something similar floats my boat.
Having said that, I'm an ex biker, so like a bit of speed now and again, especially acceleration through the gears, and handling to match, top speed is not a biggie to me, most things on the road today will happily do 140 plus, plenty fast enough to get you into trouble, and besides, our roads are just too busy nowadays.
I do sound a bit like an " old fart" well I am the wrong side of 21, by quite some margin.

Yeah I'm a biker so can relate to wanting something to at least attempt to match that feeling of speed, and mine gives it a good go, especially through the bends. Mine is my DD so not ruining the way it drives when modding it is important but so far so good.
