Which evo is best???

Hi guys i dont own an evo but will possibly looking for one soon i currently own a civic type r with many mods but ive got 2 kids now and the whole 2 door thing and lack of room in the back is getting a bit of a pain in the arse. Im told by the type r owners forum that the running cost of the evo will be like the civic + half again per year is this correct? Im also told the 9 is the one to go for? i really dont know loads about them is the mr the top spec? Any help is much apreciated budget possibley around 15k but not for a while yet just after info for now cheers

Depends what you want to use it for? I have 2 kids and I have a 8MR
Perfect for a family car, 15k will get you a nice 9 just make sure you work your money out on running costs and servicing and wear and tear as it WILL break something
Good tyres is a must so that's £500 minimum there! Just have a serious think a lot of people buy these cars thinking there going to be like there Astra then realize it's not.

Yeah ive heard theres alot of low milage ones about because people get them underestimating the cost then sell them within a year when they realise. Im really not put off i spend nearly £50 a week on Vpower now and get a full service from honda and do an oil change myself between services every year so id assume the evo would be fairly similar servicing wise. I use bridgestone potenza tyres on the R which cost £126 each so hopefully fairly similar as i know alot of people put evo 8 enkies on the R. It would mainly be used as a family car but i do like to give it a thrashing when im alone, possibley the odd trackday but that would not be its main use. Whats the reliability like to use as a daily? Thanks

Lol why are you all selling? Would i be best buying one with alot of mods or going for a standard one? I get hooked buying stuff so was thinking maybe save cash in the long run by getting one with alot allready done?

simple answer is go drive one and see which you prefer

find the cleanest, up to date car you can for your money cos like billy said, parts are not cheap. evos are high performances cars and come with high performance price tags.

for example if you find one just coming up to 5 years old and around 45k then be prepared for a £600 bill for service and cambelt. that is if it doesn't need brakes or tyres etc

Nice one, like i said it will probley be mid next year before i get one just thaught id make a start on getting more clued up about them ive allways wanted one so im not put off by the running cost & under no illusions that it will be high. Are there any common problems to look out for when veiwing/test driving them? I was a bit stupid when i baught the type r and baught it when it was raining only to realise the shocking state of the paintwork later, cost me £900 for a full respray :-(

Where you from fella? Might be an idea to take one of us that's local to you to view the car! Am sure somebody will help you! If your near me in nottinghamshire i will! If you find any up this neck of the wood's let me know and i will have a butcher's for you!

Im from gateshead tyne and wear mate so not very close :-( would be great if someone could do that as other then obvios things that apply to most cars i wouldnt have a clue what to look or listen for, on test drives i tend to fall in love too easily aswell and almost allways but the first or second one i see lol

Just make sure service history is really good. Don't be put off by specialist garages/tuners servicing them cos they could be better than the dealers

Check all the lights on the dash come on and go out, make sure the 3 Ayc light go down to just 1 and stay down while driving
