Who told you that was tappets??
They only rattle when on idle, as you rev and increase oil pressure the rattle would stop...
Sounds like something is on backwards. As you come off throttle and you get vac, it gets worse. Like its trying to close something...
You should be able to pinpoint the noise.
If your worried about internals then you can take the sump off to inspect.

We used a screw driver to try and pin point the sound and can hear it alot more when it's in the turbo?
Cheers

Have you a boost leak?
Can you move the flapper attached too the actuator?

Penny washer. That's the bit the actuator keeps closed until desired boost level is reached. Try pulling the arm tighter by hand while revving engine see if it stops. Careful not to burn your hands though :)

I know the actuator didn't hold boost and lee told me to get new actuator in the future it came out at 360 but wouldn't hold so he done it to 340 and it hold 1.6 bar well so don't think it's leaking, what part is that lee I need to pull ? Cheers buddy

The penny washer is the flapper. Its inside the turbo exhaust housing!!

You can't test.
Take turbo off.
Remove exhaust housing.
Physically check the washer/flapper.

Didn't b6lee say something about pulling something ? Also if it was this is it a new turbo job. ? Or can that penny be replaced ?

See the pin the actuator is connected to. It rotates the shaft the the penny washer is attached to. Try pushing pulling it holding it see if it stops the rattle. If so then the shaft itself could be worn in which case a replacement hotside is required

Pull the arm on the actuator that attaches near the turbo housing.
This is connected to the flapper inside.
Basic turbo dynamics-
When you reach desired boost the actuator pushes on the rod and opens the flapper. This expels exhaust gases straight out the exhaust.
So if it's loose then it will rattle/move about...

So when you let off the throttle is that penny supposed to be open ? Do you think this could of been the problem why it couldn't hold the boost or may e actuator is going aswell ?

Turbo basics -
If the actuator cannot hold the flapper closed tight, then you have boost leak.
You were advised to change the actuator because it wouldn't hold anymore boost.
It's now getting worse and causing your rattle. Because the flapper is loose.

Right so we just went out and as you both said its the penny washer if I push on the actuator bar it stops :) thanks so much guys just wish I never threw 100 quid away on lash adjusters ! So what now do I need a new actuator or hot side of the turbo ? Should the washer rattle or would that mean its knacked and lee did say could be penny or something I just need to know what to buy this time that will cute it lol :D

Take actuator off.
Blow through were the vac pipe is attached.
If you can blow with no resistance then it's knackered.
Rust around the top where the arm goes in is tell tale sign its knackered aswell.
