seem weld is when they cut and weld small sections of pipe to for a bend, most times it is because the pipe they are using is too thick to form bends with a bender which means that if it is too thick it will not crack right?

All the big race crews use this method. Time attack teams are all for it too.

that has seem welds in the mid sections but it is a cheap one so better left alone. a good quality one will probably have around 6 or more seems per pipe.
I am sure El can tell you more.

good advise for free? El is a rare breed!

you should give him a shout, he took me round some lock up that his mate owns and i seen some goodies there for the 1 2 and 3. loads for the 4s upwards too!
he must have every thing in there to build quite a fair few monsters from scratch.

MITSUBISHI EVO 1 2 3 TURBO EXHAUST Manifold on eBay (end time 20-May-10 12:43:47 BST)

what turbo are you running as that manni is for a external gated turbo.

the cheap ones tend to crack where they are welded to the plate (not a good idea welding thin to thick)

The standard manni untouched is good for over 400horses.

I would contemplate buying a cheap manifold with bracing and if it only lasts 12months before cracking its not that big a deal to get it rewelded to last another year or two......and in the long run still a damn site cheaper than a top quality manifold.

Thats what I used to think, but when it happens, and it turns out all the bolts/studs have gone brittle or seized in the turbo housing.

You soon realise it just isn't worth the agro, as you either spend a day drilling them out yourself, or take it to a machine shop to be drilled out (the option I had to do, as the bolts were too high tensile).

Well said Russ;)

Some opinions are best left to one side as they are not tried and tested:D
