hows about free mapping for members :D:D:D:D:D im not kidding :awesome::awesome::awesome::awesome:

lol, ok, just pay for my kit and we have a deal. ;)

Becareful on using the geekmapped term!!!! Lol

I don't think its a problem in this context, I think its only an issue of people advertise themselves as "geekmappers" that is an issue, which is not being discussed here. No-one has said they are a "geekmapper". ergo, no problems.

Lol apparently and @ fcm now a geekmapper :)

Is he? I though he would have come under "pro mapper" because he works for a trader?

Anyway, this topic is veering off.

copy written now

geekmapper and geek mapped

Legally speaking that only stops you using it to advertise yourself, it can not stop someone else referring to another person as a "geekmapper", it's just a term that gets chucked about, and as long as no-one (other than AndyF & GrayW) is able to make money off the name then people loosely chucking about the term is perfectly legal.

However I have never really associated myself much with that term, because I could see long before it happened that it would get out of hand and eventually get protected legally.

Depends on who you know! trade prices rock! can do anywork needed my self so its all good!

You definately won't get trade prices on an Open Port 2.0 unless you know the guys @ Tactrix in the US, EcuFlash is free but again made by the guys @ Tactrix in the US, EvoScan is cheap enough as it is and again unless you know Hamish in NZ you won't get trade prices.

Wideband, well you might get trade on that, but if you know guys who work in normal stores like Dingrbo (my mate works there) then they do not supply Widebands, they do the sensors themselves, not the units, so again, no trade prices and same applies to det-cans, these items are specifically for tuning and not general mechanics, so you won't get trade price unless you are friends with a tuner, not just a mechanic or people who work in the motor trade.

I know more people that I can think of in the motor trade, and not 1 of them could get me discount on these items, because they are not your basic mechanics diagnostic kit, etc.

It is an expensive hobby for sure. Replacment wideband sensors cost £70 each, knock sensors are £61. A replacement knock sensor cable for my det-cans which got crushed in a bonnet hinge cost me £37, then another £60 for an Innovate tailpipe sniffer, etc, etc.

It all adds up, so don't go into it thinking you can get cheap parts because you know guys in the trade. I know guys in the trade who can get me virtually any car part I need but could not help at all with this kind of stuff.

Det-cans alone are about £330 delivered (inc VAT) brand new, wideband is another £250 or so + the £60 tailpipe sniffer or cost of getting a bung welded in.

So it does all add up, I don't even want to think how much I have spent on mapping software, cables, accessories, etc, etc. Easy spent thousands on equipment. :-/

By trade prices i ment if anything happens when mapping the car, i can normaly fix it my self i.e fuel pump packs in or something.

but thanks for the insight into mapping never done it before but seems like it could be interesting! expensive but interesting! got norris designs to map my s14a so id no doubt be going back there inless theres someone in scotland thats trustworthy.
