V5 STV gets a 2.2L Stroker @ Indigo-GT

Well after 4.5 years of ownership, a couple of months ago I was looking to sell up and part ex against an Evo VI Extreme with RS450 conversion. Unfortunately that fell through as Extreme didn’t want my VII as a part ex.

So after a bit of thought and discussion with Antony@Indigo-GT, we began planning how to make mine a bit more responsive. It has been running 370 bhp / 340 little torquettes for about 1.5 years now on an evo IX turbo and Apexi ecu.

As I use it a daily drive it was time to change or get more ponies.

So with Big thanks to the team at Indigo, I’ve decided to go for a 2.2L drive in / drive out Stroker build. I wanted a quick spool turbo, loads of noise and a launchable clutch.

So the shopping spree began with a Hydra Nemsis ECU with thanks to nitrous evo.

Next was the turbo I was after, so again another bargain in the M*R sales thread was the HKS GTII 7460R Turbo from evo 4 john.

A call to indigo-GT to discuss clutches came to the agreement on an Exedy Twin plate and flywheel.

As Indigo-GT was launching their new Club Intercoolers it was decided to buy one of the 1st ones built.

I was initially going to get my rods done at Norris, but a wee cheeky message from Technicalthunk told me that Rob from Indigo had posted up an evo IX block for sale on facebook. So after a chat with Ant regarding costs to forge it etc, I got a deal I couldn’t really refuse. So it was left in the cable hands of Indigo to purchase all the component parts to build me a 2.2L stroker and go for a complete new engine which includes the following parts:
Evo IX engine block – decked, honed and bored to 86mm.
Reconditioned cylinder head, skimmed, new valve guides, new stem seals etc
CP Pistons (86mm)
Bridgeway Conrods (150mm)
ACL Bearings
ARP Head Studs
ARPMain studs
Full Mitsubishi gasket kit
New Mitsubishi Timing kit
New Mitsubishi water pump
New Mitsubishi oil pump
Balance shaft eliminator kit
RossSport 2.2L crank

Ralliart water thermostat
Hell oil cooler

Evo was dropped off 2 weeks ago, so the plan is to get it back this weekend and do the 500 mile run in mileage.

I’ll post up more photos as I get them.

Really can’t wait to have it mapped on full chant. Fingers crossed the 6 speed gearbox holds out, but if not gives me a month to source one before my xmas break in Scotland.
Future plans might be an RS diff set up and possibly changing the looks, close evo mates know what I’m talking about. It’s a secret until I decide to have it done or not.

I’m sure Indigo team will post up anything I’ve missed.

Unless you come across anyone with a 2.3L on a GT35 or 850R lol, then they'll leave you standing :razz: Yours should make for a nice quick spooling fast road car

I've driven to Scotland twice a year for the last 4 years and only ever seen 1 evo on the opposite side of the motorway, never mind come across one with a GT35. BUt if I did I don't have an issue being left standing as long it's by an evo. As you know we can never tell what's under the bonnet of these cars
