Using an Evo X SST gearbox

Hi.
A question or two about an SST 'box'...
Can you paddle up a gear without releasing the throttle ? Does it cut the engine automatically ? Can you use the stick instead of the paddles ?
And if so, how do down shifts work ?
Also, what are the gearbox options and traction control options and how do they combine ?

Thanks :)

Good question! I'm new to evo's so please don't pin me on way.

I've had mine two weeks now.

You don't have to lift the throttle to change up or down.

If you happen to use the paddles and want to go back to auto you hold up gear for a few secs and it sorts its self out.

Still learning myself quick thing I've figured out is that easier to put it in sport mode and leave in auto.

However sharp hairpins etc. It is nice to use the engine to brake your speed instead of braking harder than you would normally if that makes sense.

I'm lovin it, realised i need a big field to test traction, paddles, etc to work what mode what buttons do what with the gear box.

Very cool. Ill re post in a couple of weeks when I've worked it out.

Oh also ment to say if you use the stick and move it right it locks in manual mode, if you don't do this it will auto flick back to auto, say your booming alone playing with the paddles and stop at lights junction or whatever go to pull off and its back in auto, found that out, so i guess that's why you have to move it right to lock manual gears.

Hope that helps as i said only two weeks so still figuring it and i didn't realise how many, buses, tractors etc there was on the roads when you give it some beanz

Yes.

> Does it cut the engine automatically ?

Don't think the engine cuts, I think it just relies on the speed of the change. Given that the box starts to slip with more torque makes me think that is probably the case.

> Can you use the stick instead of the paddles ?

If you move the stick to the right it goes into manual mode and the stick functions like a sequential shifter. You can still use the paddles, but you can push the stick up to go down a gear and back to go up one.

> And if so, how do down shifts work ?

Push it the stick forward if in manual mode and\or pull the down paddle. You'll probably be braking when going down gears anyway and you'll enjoy how smoothly it goes down the box, keeping the car very poised.

Gearbox in auto mode can be normal, sport and supersport. You'll only really use it in normal when in auto mode. As well as speed of gear change the mode also dictates how sensitive the throttle is (in manual or auto). In auto mode obviously the mode dictates when the gears change and what gear is held at what speed. The box has no notion of "cruising" though. If you're steady on the throttle it'll still hold a low gear\high revs which is why the sport modes aren't suitable for normal driving, and for "proper" driving you'll be in manual mode anyway.

TC is "on", "kind of on" and "almost off". On will keep the car stuck to the steering line as much as possible. "Kind of on" will allow the car to get more out of shape, allowing some slide, and "almost off" gives you even more leeway in terms of steering vs direction. There is quite a good video on YouTube showing the different options. I doubt there is any connection between the gearbox mode and the TC.

Yes you keep foot on revs when shifting up & down which allows super quick change as being sst it already has the next gear ready for you , you can use stick aswell simply push & pull for up & down ;)

Does not matter which mode your in when you come to a stop, auto/manual the box just drops your gears anyway. ;)

if your going up a hill and the revs are a bit low and you want to go faster, I would change down with my foot on the throttle
