Turbo upgrade... need help!!!

Hello everybody greedings from Cyprus, i am new in the forum and i want some help pls.
I am considering on buying an Evo 8...
I'am between
1) a stock Evo 8 Gsr
2) and an upgraded Evo 8 Gsr which has been tuned with an Evo 9 brand new turbo and gear box
(both cars are in the same price.)

My question is, is it better to buy the tuned one?? or should I be afraid for some problems due to this upgrade and buy the stock one ?????And why in both cases??

There would be nothing wrong with an upgraded 8 GSR using a turbo from an Evo 9, many people do it, but generally when the internals of the engine have been upgraded to be safe at power of 400+bhp

I would also ask a couple of questions though.

1) What power is the upgraded 8 gsr running.
2) What other supporting mods does it have (Induction kit, Fuel pump, Remap etc etc)
3) If the power is less than 400bhp and the internals are standard, I would be asking why they had changed to a Evo 9 turbo. It could possibly mean that there has been a turbo failure somewhere in the history of that car (then, more questions would need to be asked)

The upgraded 8 gsr has only the turbo upgrade and gear as weel as a cluth kit. Only these two are the upgrades so I don't have idea how much power did it get from these.. Do you know approximately???
The reason that the owner of the upgraded evo changed it is that he found it slow so he want to do those two basic but expensive upgrades.

To be honest, with out a remap I wouldn't imagine he would have seen any great improvement.

Maybe he has increased the boost, but he could have done that on a standard turbo.
The clutch is not a performance upgrade in my opinion. It isn't going to give you anymore power than the car already has. If the clutch is an upgrade then it would likely be one that could handle more torque than a standard clutch could, so more of a safety upgrade really.

No I wouldn't worry about them. I would (personally) confirm why the turbo was changed, but after reading what Nick said below I would guess that is the reason.

Do they spool better than a normal Evo 8 turbo? I was under the impression they were used normally after a rod job or something as they were cheaper than the FP range or TT S205 (and range) and spooled better than the bigger turbos.

Would you notice any decent improvement without a remap or a tweak to an existing map?

They spool better and hold longer than an 8 turbo, you won,t need a rod job for a 9 turbo they usually max out around 420 430ish wheras a s205 is good for upto 480ish. Most people upgrade to a 80series-9 turbo asits an easy upgrade without having to do any engine work. Would still need a remap and adjust fueling to feel any real improvement:sad:

Is an Evolution FQ-300 2005 model a good choice and why? What parts has upgraded from Mitsubishi Ralliart UK? and Does it have a remapped ECU than a stock GSR evo?
