I'm a new Evo owner and the first forum i visited was MLR but i couldn't get on with their site and them wanting me to pay £35 to see some of the listings, so I googled Evo forums and found this site and I must say so far I like what i see and find the site easy to use and the people on here very freindly and helpfull.

I also found this forum when I refused to pay the 35 quid I just googles evo owners and there it was I must say the mlr have a great for sale section but they probably have many more members it may be worth contacting the likes if indigo Gt (ant) and engine tuner (alan jeffry) Norris designs (Simon) and inviting them to join our community as they bring more people and great offers

i also agree, mlr was the first evo forum i join'd an d found out that there was a £35 members fee and i thought f**k that for a game of malles so join EVOOWNERS aswell,

so dow really use mlr anymore.

i found on there u post something up and i don't think they can be bothered with "no members" cause u never get a reply untill u already have sort'd the problem.

but on here every1 is on the same level no1 is "better" than anybody else (except nick superstar admin)lol, if some1 got advice they will give u it.

Norris and RC Developments etc. are all members of MLR and that is why the forum charge you money to register, you will get advice from them if they want to give it to you but they are all busy outfits that are involved in Big projects throughout the world and tour a hell of a lot. When they do reply it is mostly to potential clients and those that have had big mods done or are time attack crews.

Lower level members just read those posts and put 2 and 2 together but 4 is rarely the answer because their cars are a totally different set up in the majority of cases.
A blatant higher and lower level membership class is detectable to anyone that is clued up.

I have much respect for those guys (RC, Norris etc) and what they stand for, one of our personal cars that we have been working on over the last couple of days is off to RC at 10 am today for a stage 1 tune and should be putting out a safe 500 horses so I honestly take my hat off to them and hope they progress as much as possible as it will reflect on our garage too. They are the daddies and the ones partially responsible for the Evo scene taking off so quickly from the time the I first hit the UK. A time when every one was just talking about the Skyline and the Scooby.

The future of Evo Owners is to give the Evo community what they need and then some more without the initial fork outs that have become customary.

It is the aim of Evo Owners to have a vast array of technical Date as well as all the info on professional outfits that will charge members a reasonable rate for services rendered in every major area accessible to any one that needs it.

This is probably one of the only places where we see each other as a community and not as potential customers.

If you have the skills then spread them so that others can benefit from them too. If a little money is made along the way (buying/selling parts) then even that is helping each other to progress.

The last thing I want to hear about or see is an Evo parked on a drive way because the owner does not know how to cure a problem. Those other Forums don't care if that happens, even If you pay annual subscriptions!!!

Find me one moderator on those forums that PM's members when they have not posted or replied to a thread over a period of a couple of weeks just to see if everything is OK.

Show me more than 10 threads on one of those Forums where the moderator has told a member with a problem to keep him posted on a problem just to check if the advice he has given is viable.

You will struggle to find such a site!!!

i went on there are same as you guys ,it say you have to pay,i thought not on your nelly mate and by the way this was the first site i joined and im not kissing any ones arse, I understand you are getting advise from norris and rcand if they dont get back to you whats the point of paying? but at the end of the day all our cars say lancer evo and the back and if they like it or not grow up and join in lol (thats what i think!!!!) ill get off my soap box now

Good call frankie. In my experience if you want to speak to Simon Norris or alan jeffry just give them a call and they are more than happy to help. I call ant at indigo all the time and he is very helpful fortunatly I have found someone else just as helpful that is here all the time for us. Our main man Eldopesta

One things for sure people, they don't have NICK with them so the system will always be the same i.e members either banging on about updates that should have happened long ago, or just banging their heads against their keyboards because Norris etc had no time to give their input. So I guess it's a banging site after all

If I was not soooooo gifted then I would have just bought a Haynes Manual for less than half of their membership price & tried to get chummy with a dealership mechanic

I'm a active member on mlr and do pay the membership (very reluctantly, believe me) mainly because it is the biggest and most active evo forum in the uk.

I have brought it up about the membership fee and got shot down by mods and members saying it is value for money.....which it is in a sense, but my argument is the site would operate just as well if it was free (like most other car forums)

What a lot of members tend to not realise is that mlr is a business.

You will very rarely see input/help from the sponsored tuners on the mlr (I have my own theories as to why this is )

If I ever have problems I'm unsure of or need advice with something evo related then mlr is my first port of call as there are a lot of knowledgable and helpfull people on there.

Get all the mlr members to join up and become active on here then I will gladly move over

Thats the crux of the matter. Forums are expensive. No two ways about it.
I have an advantage in that I run a hosting business so its not costing me much in technology but also Im a promoter (ok so a music promoter but the skills transfer) too and the ability to find revenue streams without taking away from the main business helps.
I personally am not in this to make my fortune but this is a business and it does have to pay its way and to be honest anyone who runs a forum over a certain size and doesn't run it with a business eye is either lying or has too much cash to start with

But dont worry, I have never had to charge a membership fee to normal members on any forum

Sponnors you do have a point, but the simple math conclusion is exactly how it was put by Steevo, If you ring Norris or you ring Clive at RC, or Rich at Power Station or Alan then they will tell you what's what for free. You will save money. Then again, as I said, the Haynes Manual has loads of info with pictures which is half the price.

Bottom line Sponnors is that a day will come when MLR members all move over, they might even still pay MLR fees and become members here too but the change has started and will no doubt continue.

We are growing and at the same time we are improving so it is inevitable.

MLR can stay the biggest, but it wont stay the most active that's for sure.

I would very much love to hear your thoughts on how we can improve our site as we welcome all criticism here unlike over there.
