top end knocking noise

no if you havnt lost power you should be ok, tappets will do the job. mines a little more involved i think i should find out early next week hopefully and once i know i can start saving for parts.

dont know about power loss started it one morning and it was chapping away not driven incase one of the lifters locks up and snaps a rocker etc

That's good guys see as we all give eachother advice and help eachother out I think it's better than just thinking about it ourselfs as I know that stresses me out. This forum is really good especially when you have a problem cause it gives you a peace of mind when you can find out about it. Example tappets, I was worried then reading on the forum I realised it's a common problem so you know it can be fixed.
Fqcraigus hope you get your motor sorted mate keep us posted on how it goes.

well tappets made no difference im now thinking it may be something far more serious anybody near falkirk that knows these engines to confirm my thoughts

done a bit of research and looks like its the rod bearings it sounds identical to this you tube vid

am i right in thinking i can do the rod bearings on this engine by removing sump etc to gain access from the bottom without removing head etc

i am reasonably handy with the spanners just never worked on this engine before

Yh with the dump off you can access the bottom end shells. Sounds like your in the same situation as me mate I gave up with replacing parts as it will just get too costly get the car to a garage to diagnose the fault so u can replace the parts that need doing mate

well had the car at the local tuners today its the bottom end shells on number 3 crank is fine and not scored. and i have .43mm crank walk is this going to cause problems or is this small amount acceptable for a temp repair till i get another engine when funds allow
