Hi All,

There are many products on the market and many ways to Detail your pride and joy, some good and some not so good.

In order to help you reach an informed decision on what to go for I have enlisted the help of our resident Detailer; Hunty;)

From what I have seen, he has the know how and the experience so just post up your questions and wait for him to get back to you!!!

Could it be any simpler then that???

Hey Guys,

I’ve been detailing for a couple of years now, so relatively new to the scene. However I’m an aircraft technician by trade so am used to time consuming tasks that are have to be within fine tolerances; detailing is a logical step for a car geek I guess. I’ve dealt with VAG and BMW paint mostly (Rock Hard!) so the recent Evo V I did for youngy on the forum was a great experience for me (plus he let me have a bash behind the wheel…….Quick!) Rewarding and has the finish a superb car like that deserves! I’m not the definitive answer on car detailing, sorry, but a lot of it is down to personal opinion, personal experiences and preference over products. I’ll try and help you guys out, and if you ask anything I’m unsure about, I’ll get some opinions from the detailing community and get back to you. Anyway, some pics of work I’ve done, I’d love to hear about products you’ve used and had great results with and share opinions, any Q’s, blast away!

Neil

Thanks Gents,

Evogeof... I'd love to work on your car, you'll bve able to get a great finish on it, lovely and rewarding colour to work on. If you look into it, detailing is something you can do yourself, it's just about being massively particular!

Andy, around thee engine bay spray with a degreaser and then agitate with a brush, rinse with a hose pipe (cover any electrics with plastic bags.) and then protect with a sealant.... if it's laquered treat as paintwork. If stainless steel, get some autosol, it's mega!

Evo4aps, It sounds like it hasn't been refined after compounding which is poor work really. Polish is like sandpaper, the finer the sandpaper, the better the finish, you start with the harshest needed to do the job and work your way down, so it will need going over with a finishing polish by the sound of it, applied by machine. Not used farcela, I use menzerna so something like speed finish PO 106 FA, but 3M ultrafina and meguiars #83 and #80 would also do the job, 3M has a fantastic reputation, it's what I'm going to go for next.

Wayne'o..... based on the lincolnshire cambridgesire border. If you need a detailer look on detailersworld forsomeone near you that have posted on there so you can see their work prior.

Thanks for the great reception gents, can't believe I missed a bit!!!:disgusted::)

Are you applying by hand?

Swirl x is like any polish, you've really got to work it to break it down, by hand it will take you weeks, an hour at least to do one panel. You can tell when its broken down when it goes from white to a clear gel-like substance spread on your panel.

Swirls are an inevitable part of car care. You can minimise swirling by adopting a good wash method. The two bucket method with grit guards in your bucket is the biggest reduction with a lambswool wash mitt. But this won't eradicate the menace of swirls. Neither will snow foam, it's just one of those things.

Your best bet is to mask the swirls with a filling polish. Autoglym super resin polish (AG SRP),poorboys Black Hole and others of that ilk are the best bet by hand.

If you want that mirror immage clarity from your paintwork, you could get a Dual action polisher like the Kestral DAS-6 or the meguiars G220, or pay a professional to do it for you then maintain the look with the above wash method.

Van looks great Andy, nice reflection shot there buddy

:)Love to see you with your feather duster on your car

The neighbours will be talking!

The white dust is over applied product, with any last stage products (LSP's) and filling polishes less is more, the thinner the layer, the better the finish, and the longer it will last so you get your moneys worth.

A light coat is sufficient!

As Hunty stated....."less is more" when it comes to this particular resin.
