Just started driving my Evo 5 tonight.I always allow the car to warm up before driving anywhere but when driving the car I have noticed that the teperature needle drops from midway right down to
the bottom thus when idling the automatic choke comes on or sometimes the car cuts and is slightly juddery coming off the throttle then the temperature rises back up again.has anyone experienced this problem before is it something serious?all help would be appriecated thanks

Hi buddy!

When the temperature gauge drops to the bottom, do vents blow cold or hot???

Don't worry about it, it will be a relatively easy fix regardless of what it is.

I suspect that it may be your thermostat playing games but need the info to rule it out and move on.

I would have to agree with EL im not a EVO boffing but thermostat dying sounds like the only thing i could think of that could cause that. The only cheap way of finding out is to do the heater test thats how ive done it on most of my other jap cars...

as mentioned, sounds like the thermostat is stuck open (or not even there lol)

I'd get the thermostat checked out for now and see if you have issues after that is sorted

(dont think the temp would drop enough for the ecu to think its cold enough to add fuel)

I was thinking that the thermostat might be missing altogether too but if he has hot air blowing then it is there.

I suggest that you stick a card board panel (same sizes as rad) in front of the radiator (between the rad and bumper) and drive the car around a couple of blocks and see is the temperature gauge stays at half way.

I am still thinking that the thermostat is to blame, hence the poor man's test is being suggested here to gain confirmation;) :D :D :D

By the way, when you say it blows warm, do you mean warm or hot???

Let us know how you get on buddy.
