Syncromesh (Evo 8)

My syncromesh, (i think thats what its called) seems to be wearing thin in 3rd

gear as the gear change is no where near as smooth compared to the rest of

the gears, feels rough like metal rubbing together. can be tempramental and

feel smooth sometimes tho. is this the case?

If so how much would it cost roughly to get replaced?

the actual parts to fix the synchromesh are relatively cheap, but fitting them will be quite expensive as the box will need to come off and be stripped.

its not a serious issue that you need to worry about (other than anoying) it will just very gradually get worse.....but you wont cause any damage to the gearbox.

if you want to look after it more (when not thrashing the car) make sure the clutch is fully depressed and shift a little slower.


...if the crunch is only just noticable then might be worth trying a different g/box oil as this could cure it 'for now'

my 8 has been doing that for a week now but hopfully and friend of a friend is going to try and get it done undrer warrany,

thank u dealer who gave me 6 monts free when got the car lol
