Hi guys, I have an Evo 8 gsr running on stock suspension and have been offered some tein coilovers that where fitted to an fq330, does anyone know if they would fit the gsr model, they are coming off an 03 plate fq and onto an 05 gsr
Thanks :)

As long as they are not leaking or knocking there should be no problem with 2nd hand coilies. However, depends what you are getting them for. IIRC, you can get a full set of brand new HSD's for around £650, rated very highly in the drift scene and if they go wrong you can buy a whole brand new shock direct for just £200.

If Teins fail then it's approx £300 just to refurbish 1 coilover. Depends what you are getting them for tho.

EDIT: Just checked, HSD's are actually £775 from the Driftworks Shop.

DannyLancer,

I concur with everyone but have you answered the most important question which is why coils? The stock setup is very good on Evo's and the ride is very nice for most roads so what are your goals for the car. Remember if its a daily driver the ride is going to be stiffer

TEIN are damper adjustable. ;) Also, I have been in a stock 5 and it had nothing on my car handling wise which has HKS coilovers that are stiff enough to break your back with no damper adjustment.

Came from Japan with them, and if/when they fail I will be getting some HSD's. Good coilovers are one of the best mods for any car. Also, stock ride height on an Evo is too high IMO.

Thanks for all the input guys, I'm mainly after the coilovers because The knocking noise I have on the front is difficult to diagnose and looking at a new shock plus top mount for each side is touching £550 so I might aswel spend the extra for the coilovers and hopefully improve the handling aswel, it is kinda my everyday car so if it's gonna really stiffen up the ride I might have to have a rethink haha, anymore input on this is appreciated, cheers

What have you changed so far to try and remove the knocking noise?

Also, if you suspect its the topmount, you could just buy replacement ones.

Coilovers do transform the handling though with a geo set-up :)
